folks are writing a lot of words about what the reputation of anime was like in america back in the 90s, but this sums it up.

Raiden-ing out onto your feeds: some Japanese PC eye candy. The FM Towns has such an interesting design with its narrow tower and CD drive - reportedly the first computer to come with one as standard.
A photo of a Fujitsu FM Towns PC with keyboard, monitor, mouse and tower with tons of CD games in front of it in piles and Raiden on the screen.

A random youtube video just reminded me of a pair of genuinely great freeware gems - Vacant Ark and Iwanaga, a pair of very Treasure-inspired experimental freeware shmups from a developer known only as Buster who just kinda disappeared from the scene. They are both very cool and hold up great today

The Memorex VIS: It's CD-ROM ON YOUR TV!
An ad from the Tiger Electronics Catalog demonstrating the Video Information System's "32 Bit technology," promising a complete game console and 20 game titles free for $99.00. The image on the right shows Links, a then popular FMV golf game, but the list of games on the left is nearly total eduatainment.

I haven't posted this here yet, but I also made a repack of the game Mortyr, a forgotten Polish FPS from 1999. It's working on modern systems with widescreen patches and CD music included. I just uploaded it on the Internet Archive: archive.org/details/Mort...

"I made a catalogue for you guys!" Classy PS1 eye candy from 1999 with the cover of this gorgeous Japanese brochure for PlayStation periphs. I tend to associate the PocketStation with the PSOne as the design matches so well, but it was released a year and a half before the PSOne appeared.
The cover of a Japanese PlayStation brochure with an OG grey PS1 and dual shock on a desk surrounded by classic things, a tobacco pipe, gold spectacles, with the starkly white in contrast Pocket Station in between the off-angle controller and PS1

Phalanx! Y'know, the game with the old guy playing a banjo for the cover of the Super Nintendo release. Here with the Sharp X68000 (🥵) version, there's some hella intricate classic sci-fi artwork.
A full-page poster ad for Phalanx's X68000 version. Gorgeously detailed artwork of a space fighter undergoing maintenance and refuelling in a hangar.

From Amiga Format's Annual 1993, released at the end of 1992: AF's vision of the Amiga of the Future. Inspired by the then-recent release of the A600, this portable Amiga sports an LCD screen and a CD player. The specs for the miggy of 95? 030 processor, 2MB of RAM, AGA, and PCMCIA and IDE.
An artist's impression of the Amiga of the future (1995) from AF's 1992 perspective. It's somewhat like a big laptop, just with the AMiga's usual form factor with the sloping keyboard, a clamshell CD cover that I presume lifts next to the keyboard and a flat LCD screen. There#s a somewhat awkward hollow in the black plastic next to the screen to house the CD player cover when the lid is pulled down.

It's somewhat halfway between a true laptop and a luggable.

This is a Snow Bros repro i got on etsy years ago. Just a chip glued to a cheap board. I got it to play once, and the chip fell off.. Garbage. This def would have fried my system. Later, I bought a repro that was an official sega game now with an SB eprom on it. Just be careful buying repro carts.
Exhibit A: it may be hard to tell from the photo, but this plastic looks and feels cheap. Sticker isn't on well..Exhibit B: the back looks even worse. The screws aren't even real. Took no effort to crack this thing open. Exhibit C: the chip that was poorly glued on. I assume it was shaken up in transit. But yikes. Look at that terrible pcb. My system would have totally caught on fire.Exhibit D: Comparison to the better repro i bought. Knowing that cheap boards produce the incorrect voltage, it's good to see the person who made this used a real sega board replaced with a snow bros pcb.

"Super consoles" of the last few years were on the menu of Bad Influence's Christmas 1994 episode - plus some tantalizing glimpses of the ones rolling out in Japan: Saturn and PlayStation. It's telling that they were already seen as going to 'take over' from the 3DO, CDi, and Jaguar. #VideoBytes

(Super) Joy (Card) to the world... 🎶 While Super Joy Card sounds like something Ashens might review in a POP Station vid, it's in fact a pretty nifty Super Famicom pad. Hudson Soft and Nintendo were pretty close in the 90s, so Hudson reciprocated the big N's favour with some quality periphs.
