In 1974, select McDonald's in Cleveland OH gave away a set of McDonaldland Character trading cards promoting local educational landmarks. This set features some of the earliest giveaways of each character... it even refers to Grimace as "THE GRIMACE."

As a vintage McDonald's guy, I'm often asked: "what your favorite set of Happy Meal toys of all time?" Even though I've seen and owned em all, the answer is always the 1993 Halloween McNugget Buddies. The best designed, most nostalgic toys there's ever been.

In 1985, McDonald's in St Louis tested a Transformers & My Little Pony Happy Meal. What seemed like a sure-fire hit turned into a flop, mainly because the toys didn't transform. Due to its limited distribution, items from this promo are highly sought-after, especially the box.

One of the coolest McDonald’s Halloween promos was NICKELODEON NICK OR TREAT. If you said “Nick sent me” at the counter, they’d give you a free pack of these Amazin Fruit Gummy Bears. (1992)

This McDonald's translite sign gives you a glimpse of the original lineup of the Halloween Pails Happy Meal: McBoo, McPunk’n and McGoblin… all pumpkins, but with different facial expressions. Crazy to think it's been 40 years since this set was released! (1986)

Released in September 1976, the REMCO line of McDonaldland dolls is now officially 50 years old! The full set of figures included Grimace, Mayor McCheese, Big Mac, Hamburglar, Captain, Professor and Ronald with incredible packaging and plenty of soft goods and accessories.

The Garfield Happy Meal toys were some of the best ever made. Most of us had the four with rotating wheels, but there were also two "under 3" toys - a rollerskating and alternate skateboarding version. (1989)

In 1982, McDonald's introduced the Spaceship Happy Meal nationally - a burger and fries were loaded in a plastic ufo with a sticker sheet to decorate the craft. IMO, this is probably the first truly great Happy Meal promo ever.

My latest McDonald's collecting trip haul is all MAC TONIGHT themed! I drove up to Toy Lair in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and came back with a giant in-store appearance costume and over 30 more Mac-themed pieces like signs, posters, hats and even a Doug Jones auto that references the collection!

In 1994, McDonald's released a Bobby's World Happy Meal. These were designed as a "toy within a toy" with a vehicle as an outer shell and a second, detachable rolling toy inside.

In 1998, McDonald’s released one of their greatest Happy Meal sets: MCSPACE! The four toys each featured a McDonaldland character in part of the craft and the pieces could assemble into a spaceship. Unfortunately, these were never released in the US.

In 1991, you could order a “Friendly Skies” Happy Meal (complete with a toy and box art) on United Airlines flights. You had to order them six hours in advance, but I’m sure it was worth the wait to get McDonald’s instead of a Biscoff cookie.

As if the Super Mario Bros 3 Happy Meal from 1990 wasn't already legendary enough - one of the other concepts McDonald's considered was this Mad Ball-style King Koopa "Fireball Blaster." This would've been one of the greatest Happy Meal toys of all time if produced.
