Anyone else seeing this? In a two meter stretch of path 4 dead and one dying #bumblebees I suspect general drought / heeat stress and varroa mite infestation (dying bee was badly infested)

If you can, try and put some water out for the wild things in this hot weather they will appreciate it. If you do try to clean and refresh it one a day to stop the spread of diseases. #wildlife #water #nature

While I was out this morning forwarding some Alder thinned during winter this beast almost an inch long landed on the bonnet of the tractor. Looks like a Large Alder sawfly or Alder clubhorn to me. It flew off after one or two phone pictures. Not an Asian hornet :) #sawflies #hymenoptera

Today is Endangered Species Day and these magnificent Sperm Whales think big and dive deep. They have the largest brain ever recorded, head 1/3 of their body length, holds spermaceti a waxy oil they were hunted for. Record breaking divers, plunging over 3000 ft deep to hunt for squid and stay under for up to 90 minutes. When deep they rely on echolocation clicks that can reach around 230 decibels making them the loudest animal on the planet. They nap vertically, eat up to tons of food daily and have off center blowholes. They live in matriarchal pods with males going solo. Threats include ship strikes, noise and plastic pollution.

Haven't been very active here lately. Been busy thinning the #broadleaf #woodland It's necessary work to encourage good growth and take out diseased #trees etc. #biodiversity is increasing every year now despite what some say about planted #forests😀
