The reality TV guy at the DOT has a new plan to kill cyclists and worsen traffic
The Department of Transportation has removed five proven safety mechanisms from its guidance to transportation agencies, which seem focused on making roads less safe for bicycles, when cyclist deaths are already at an all time high. The changes would also increase vehicle traffic.

The Trump admin WITHHELD that nearly 100 U.S. troops were injured by Iran in the past 2 weeks. 400+ Americans have been injured. 18 service members have been killed. It's a tremendous sacrifice. But Trump can't even explain how America is better off or how his war will end.

The House needs to drastically increase the number of members and drastically shrink districts, so gerrymandering can go away for federal elections. Maybe a max district representation cap of like 250k. Or a parliamentary system where states votes and proportionally elect reps, with no lines.

Honestly, the great crisis of our society is the unwillingness of institutions to inflict consequences. Impeach the president, fire the sex pests, expel cheating students, excommunicate an unrepentant heretic, prosecute the war criminals. Believe in your institution enough to enforce its rules.

We've put most of the miles we've driven the last 14 months on our EV and have no regrets. Compared to a gas car, we've saved around $1500 in fueling costs by charging at home 99% of the time. This was over the ~25k miles we've driven it.

New EV fee proposals charge owners 2-3x what gas drivers pay in federal tax
A growing number of states and federal lawmakers are pushing flat annual fees of $200 to $250 on electric vehicles, amounts that charge EV owners two to three times more than what the average gas car driver pays in federal fuel tax. The proposals are being framed as a way to fund road infrastructure, but the math doesn’t add up. At a time when EVs represent roughly 10% of new car sales in the US and deliver billions in health, environmental, and energy security benefits, these blanket fees are a punitive approach that discourages adoption rather than fairly distributing road costs. more…

The Department of Energy issued a second “emergency” order to keep the last coal plant in Washington open for another 90 days, doing its best to raise electricity and health costs for central Washington. But nobody wants it open – including the owner of the plant, who hasn’t operated it at all in the last 3 months since its planned closure, citing “flush” electricity supply from the state’s ample hydropower resources. more…
