Jeeez @asmartbear.com - that is one hell of an opener to a book. I rarely comment on books like yours but I was instantly struck by it. You nailed the founder mind at 4am. 👏👏👏👏 (This is the book shop.hiddenmultipliers.com)

Having released my daughter’s song on SoundCloud a few weeks ago, it seems odd to see 0 plays from North America? Yet 350 plays from elsewhere. Is that common with SoundCloud? #music #BlueSkyMusix #Musicians

Can you expand on that at all Brian as I _think_ I’m feeling the same?

Oh and go check it out on SoundCloud: 🎶 on.soundcloud.com/PafaX7LiBosZ... 🎧👂 (I’m mid-release to streaming platforms but clearing up a licensing issue preventing full distribution). I’ll update when it’s generally available.

I’ve been songwriting with my daughter and we released a track on SoundCloud a few days ago. It’s been getting a decent number of plays which is amazing. So I thought I’d share a tiny behind-the-scenes bit of home recording… it’s a beautiful way to spend time together 😍

We get to write stuff together and that magic is just indescribable. Such a beautiful space to inhabit particularly with your kids. Music being so accessible and inspiring still gives me faith that the future will be alright.

🚨 Not made with AI 🚨 Sadie is a young artist who has been obsessed by music as long as I can remember. A massive fan of Billie Eilish, Djo, Lorde, Maya Hawk, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Olivia Rodrigo, Churches and basically anything in between.

Genuine question as id love to know why you think it’s so bad. I’ve spent a long time in the world of forms, surveys and interviews over the last year - anything with predefined questions and an overall objective for asking them in the first place. Literally just launched debriefer.ai

Debriefer - the missing intelligence layer for forms

16/ And is there an easy upgrade path to add intelligence on top of existing systems? And that's where we are today. This is what Debriefer is, and why we built it. It's exciting as it feels so natural to use.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
15/ Why can't each question understand the context of the others in the same form? And even better, understand me? Why are incumbents strapping chat boxes onto form systems to "AI-ify" - when they could add a real intelligence layer instead?
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
14/ Why can't I ask my forms to help me? Why don't they guide me in-place - exactly where I need it? Why can't forms evaluate my answers against criteria to save time? Why do forms only have crude validation, not comprehensive qualification?
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
13/ 💥 ALL OF THEM ARE ACTUALLY FORMS with different environmental contexts!!! What if a user could change their preferred mode of interaction to suit their environment, accessibility, etc? What if any form became an interview just by changing mode?
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
12/ Back to the story. Part of my Debriefer task list is building the frontend SDKs. As a designer, the non-stop battle deciding what should be a survey, what was an interview, what was a form meant months of head scratching. And then it hit:
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
11/ Second: I was talking to other businesses' customers as a consultant. They all already had every type of software, form and survey - but consistently described getting low-quality answers. Everyone thought throwing AI chatbots at their problems would help.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
10/ Two things were also running in parallel... First: we were registering business docs, grant applications, opening bank accounts, filling accounting forms - and constantly pulling our hair out at how archaic they all felt.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
9/ But one issue has been there since day one: most people hear "interviews" and think job interviews or HR. Yet what we'd learnt: a predefined set of questions to achieve an objective is anything from a web form, to a survey, to an interview. That's hard to both describe and position.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
8/ So Debriefer was born - a platform for developers and AIs to build interviews that run at scale. 🚀
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
7/ Our next pivot: we realised we'd built something useful. The whole platform layer for interviews: Intelligence layer for responding; Transport layers (we'd built sockets + text-only too); Hooks within conversations; Bespoke UI; Observability, evals etc. This also coincided with MCP adoption.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
6/ Soon we were talking to large enterprise customers who were giving the right vibes. They all seemed impressed. The hard part for them though: the jump was big back then. AI was only just becoming a bigger part of the conversation. We couldn't quite get it to take off - even with great feedback.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
5/ Every answer ran through an orchestration layer, so we got excellent qualitative + quantitative feedback. We showed researchers where we work and they were impressed. We thought we'd nailed it.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
4/ Biggest issue? long-form interviews carried a real cost. STT, TTS, VAD, reasoning, context… scaling this well - with fast responses, realistic voices, low latency - was expensive to do right.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
4/ Interviewing meant stable connections, so we settled on WebRTC with agents in the call. We went through multiple services (all building agent frameworks for customer support) and eventually landed on LiveKit which was, and is, great.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
3/ We built scalable, AI-run interviews. You'd outline an interview objective and our system turned it into a blueprint. Fixed questions for consistency, plus an agent that could follow up, prompt, guide, nudge. Goal: make it feel natural without becoming annoying.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
2/ Our journey started by trying to build cohorts of digital twins we could question en-masse.Even on models from a few years ago, the questioning worked well. But to build the personas, we needed to interview people at scale. That was our first pivot.
100
Jim Hill @jimhill.uk · 30/06/2026
In the explosion age of AI why would our startup, Debriefer, be doubling down on the seemingly mundane world of Forms?! Well, we believe they are one of the most overlooked yet best implementations of agents today. It started 2 years ago building digital twins 🤖👯 🧵👇
