New: We obtained witness videos and surveillance footage showing ICE parking their cars, arresting an observer, and transferring detainees in parking lots across 4 of Chicago's police districts. Local officials have tried banning ICE from city property. But incidents in the lots keep stacking up:

Among the ICE abductions reported yesterday was a ~7:20 a.m. incident in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood. Per video shared online, ICE agents surrounded a car with a child in it, smashed the window and took the man in the driver's seat, as the woman next to him cried and prayed.

Glad folks are appalled by photos of the "phone booth" cage under an awning, but pls understand: This IG report is likely part of a cover-up. Amnesty Int'l interviewed detainees EIGHT MONTHS AGO who said the cage was half this size (couldn't stand up), had no awning, w feet chained to the bottom.

Hundreds of people died in county jails across the state in recent years. After @illinoisanswers.bsky.social reporters found that dozens of these people weren’t counted by the state agency responsible for tracking in-custody deaths, the agency said it would audit and update its data.

There were protests over the weekend in Camp East Montana in El Paso, which saw detainees break down the walls of pods. The protests were led by Venezuelans, who were demanding their deportations after months of being held in ICE detention. My story:

Quiet morning today in Chicagoland so far, compared to yesterday, for ICE detainments. Between all the different rapid responder reports we've been able to track, at least 9 people were reported abducted across the area yesterday; 13 since Monday. Remember these are almost certainly undercounts.

NEW: in the wake of his defeat for reelection as Cook County Chief Judge nearly a year ago, Tim Evans is being elevated to the Illinois Appellate Court. Some would argue it beats being back in a trial courtroom, even if that courtroom is at the top of the Daley Center.

The impacts of Rahm Emanuel's austerity measures continue to be felt more than a decade later.
And the backlog of items still needing to be returned and processed may not return to normal levels until September — if overtime is approved — according to internal emails.

A Salvadoran man held for the past six weeks at Delaney Hall, the largest ICE detention center in the New York metro area, has died, his mother and attorneys say. It is the second death at the facility since it opened a year and a half ago.

The 1997 Flores settlement says children can only be in immigration detention for 20 days. A new legal filing shows that kids at CoreCivic's detention facility in Dilley, TX have been there as long as 323 days, & includes firsthand accounts of the abuse guards are inflicting on children.
