Never doubt the comforting power of creativity. We had two Brown students in our home for a while last night until their parents could get them. They played guitar and read Calvin and Hobbes. I know how upset they were, and it was also amazing to see how centering creativity can be. Also, F the nra.

The area around Brown University -- which is also where I grew up and now live -- is quaint and picturesque. A postcard version of a New England college town. But I never thought "this can't happen here." Because there is nowhere in the U.S. where this can't happen.

It's disheartening on so many levels, but if everything we definitely know about and have seen with our own eyes hasn't resulted in consequences, it's hard to imagine anything would come of this. I hope I'm wrong.

I was *a bit* older than most of my class when I went to school, and so many of them (myself included) had expenses that weren't even remotely covered by scholarships available at a state college. So many people "failed" out because they couldn't miss work or had to care for sick parents/siblings...

99% percentage of literary culture is a gift economy and some other percentage of the people who want in will never give gifts nor deserve any of their own.

Yes! I think my writing is to get to a similar spot, which I refer to as, ”What the eff WAS that?” But I really like “Damn, ain’t that some shit.”

Do you know what they can never take from us? Cooking a delicious dinner while listening to a record.

What? Id not heard this. Anarchist and punk zines saved my life as a teen and showed me there was a compassionate, engaged world outside of my situation.

"Pure Godzilla joy" is a truly special thing.

In keeping with the bounty of Godzilla, I often find peace in this statement.

Picture of Godzilla, with text that reads: Saying "my life stinks" when things go wrong is self-deprecating, defeatist, and fills you with sadness. Saying, "this isn't the life Godzilla wants for me," is motivating, makes you think about Godzilla, and reminds you that Godzilla cares about you.

Yes! So much beyond “difficulties.” I’m also noticing where this article places the blame for estrangement.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.
