Using a 7 MMBtu/MWh gas heat rate and EPA’s 53.06 kg CO₂/MMBtu natural gas factor, 8 GW of gas generation = ~2,971 metric tons of CO₂/hr. B/c wind & hydro are displacing gas—the marginal unit—1 for 1, they’re avoiding ~706 and ~409 metric tons of CO₂/hr. respectively—~1,115 metric tons/hr. combined.

Combined output of Natural Gas plants in New England ~ 11 p.m. equaled ~5 GW. It would have be 8 GW but for Wind contributing ~1.9 GW and Québec Hydro delivering 1.1 GW via NECEC transmission line. A clear demonstration of the effect state policies are having on New England’s bulk power system.

They don’t. The solar is installed behind your meter, but when your panels’ production exceeds your home’s load it goes back out onto the grid, spins your meter backward, and is used in one or more of your neighbors homes. Whether in your home or a neighbor’s, its serving load.

I didn’t anticipate the persistent antagonism toward the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line. B/c power is simultaneously being exported back to Quebec via a different intertie the import/export exchange has been cast as “greenwashing”—which is completely & utterly unfounded.

Per the article, NECEC suffered a fault that’s being repaired. HQ says power will flow when work is completed. Millstone 2 ☢️ generating station unexpectedly tripped offline June 5 and is still not operating. Would you make the same sweeping statement about nuclear resources based on that outage?
