Lucky me, realized Old Navy had Muppet Christmas Carol matching family PJs before they ran out! That these things are already low in stock in September is bananas. Men's shirts for our whole crew because women's are somehow already gone!

In the last 5 years pretty much everyone doing sit-at-a-desk jobs has been asked to try to automate as many portions of their work as possible. So far I've seen very few people outside of data science or product find more than a handful of tasks it's possible to automate.

This thing now where simply visiting a website opts you in to a brand's email is INSANE. I didn't purchase anything! I didn't give you my email! You just used all the creepy tracking data to decide one web visit gives you the right to my inbox. I hate hate hate it.

The new episode of Youth means we now somehow have two episodes of television set at the Frankfurt Book Fair?? Do they have an active PR team or something? (First one was Younger season 5 www.imdb.com/title/tt8107... )

It is time to rotate streaming services and normally I'd switch to @shudder.com but somehow they don't have Interview with the Vampire or The Devil in Silver. It makes zero sense to me that since they're the same company most things you can get on both AMC+ or Shudder but not these??

Every year there's one preview that I see a dozen times that makes me feel like I want to die. This year it's Digger. How this trailer is on every single movie I see I don't know. Each time I'm only more convinced I will never ever ever watch it.

Jess @jessicaesquire.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

I follow dozens of film critics on here. I'm active on Letterboxd. I see tons of movies. But since the end of the summer rush there are always like 3-4 movies at my multiplex that I've never heard of. And not just the secretly Christian ones!

I just found out that Elizabeth Strout is a Booker finalist and now all I want to do is talk about how slept on she is. The way she has put out book after book that tackles the anxieties of the present moment! The emotional catharsis she always brings!

Saw THE WEIGHT in theaters tonight, which certainly has some very strong (too strong?) SORCERER vibes except they're kinda nice guys this time. It was tense as hell, if you want to spend an hour with your whole body clenched, I recommend it!

Where to start with this one? That there's no way for consumers to know if their meat is part of the recall since it's all been repackaged? That the meat had a false USDA badge of inspection? That the reporting on this rn is from allrecipes and Good Housekeeping but no major news sites?

A 4 hour film is ridiculous. But break that up into a 4-episode limited series and it'll do fine. I suspect there are still a very high number of normies who do not know how bad he's gotten who will eat it up.

Finished Nightjars a few days ago. The only reason it took so long is that it was too creepy to read before bed! The beginning was the creepiest but it only got a little bit easier after that! The scariest horror novel I've read in ages and one of the best horror novels of the year period.

I had very mixed feelings on the last episode of FURIOUS. I get that they're setting up a second season but I just couldn't feel good about Nora and Alice making the decisions they made about their jobs. But I always found it hard to believe that Alice would escape to the old boys club of the FBI.

We've talked a lot this summer about a couple big films from young talent but we absolutely cannot leave out Alexander Ullom and IT ENDS. This is a Gen-Z film with something to say. I wrote about how it channels generational anxieties at @darkertimes.bsky.social www.darkertimes.com/life-is-a-li...

Life is a Liminal Highway

Alexander Ullom's It Ends is a surprisingly relevant tale of nihilism and persistence after you find out the world you were promised isn't the one you're living in.

This validated my current method of choosing what I read: if it hasn't grabbed me in a way that feels good and real in the first few pages then I'm out. Just because prose is fancy doesn't mean it's good, and if it's good it should give you that satisfying little ooo of recognition.

I say this as a child who wore out a tape of the Annie soundtrack in the 80s, but wow it's a bummer that Annie has to be in this movie at all. Give me ten movies about these 3 characters, please. (And a director who knows what to do with dance sequences, while I'm asking.)
