You there! Yes, you! Are you an actor or performer, or do you teach drama, theatre, or acting? I want to hear from you for my new project that's all about *care* in relation to performer training. Details in the slides; Link is below Thank you in advance for taking part 🤗
Calling actors and theatre teachers!

I'm sharing a short survey that will ask you open-ended questions about how you experienced care (or didn't) in your training, and -- if you teach -- how you show care for your students now.

This image includes a QR code that links to https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/H1WcrYxN2zAbout the project: Embodied Archives & Communities of Care in Actor Training. Scholar Virginia Held says that “Care is both a value and practice” (2006, 9). In the training of actors, particularly in conservatoire and other intensive environments, theories and practices of care have evolved rapidly over the past twenty years. At the same time, however, the physical and psychological demands on performers of classical texts such as Shakespeare’s have remained high. Educators of actors may now find themselves having to re-examine the embodied knowledge built up from their own training and professional experiences, in order to care more effectively for students as they build the literal and metaphorical musculature required of a classical performer. Trainee actors still depend very much on the relational communities of care in which they train, rehearse and perform, while at the same time being encouraged to envision themselves as a highly individualised neoliberal product.About the Project (continued)
“Embodied Archives and Communities of Care…” therefore considers the extent to which care is a key component of actor training, and the ways that definitions of ‘care’ in relation to the classical performer have shifted over the past two decades. Through this project, I aim to explore the extent to which communities of care constitute an embodied archive; how replication and innovation interact in the enactment of care; and how definitions of “care” in a training context shift and evolve over time.
Here's where you come in!

I'll be so grateful if you take a few minutes to complete the survey.

At the end of the survey is an invitation to volunteer for a more in-depth interview, if you're open to it.

When I write up this research, all responses from both the survey and the interviews will be anonymised.

If you're able and willing, I would be thrilled to have your responses as part of the research. I would be equally grateful if you could please share the survey link with anyone else in your network who may be interested in taking part. The survey will be open until the end of January 2027.

Jada Williams is good at judging people by their looks. From across the mall, she can tell not only someone's inseam and pants size but exactly what style they need to transform their life. Too bad she's no longer using this superpower as a wardrobe designer to Hollywood stars but for minimum wage plus commission at the Glendale mall.

When Jada is fired yet again, she is forced to outrun the newly instated Debt Police, who are out for blood. But Jada, like any great antihero, is not going to wait for the cops to come kick her around. With the help of two other debt-burdened mall coworkers, she hatches a plan for revenge. Together, the three women plan a heist to erase their student loans forever and get back at the system that promised them everything and then tried to take it back.

Okay I am just so damn proud of myself. When I bought my house two years ago, I inherited this 70s disaster of a bathroom. Today I finished the upgrade, which includes sexy tile floors and awesome new wallpaper that I put up all by myself with not one other person helping me!!
A bathroom will upsettingly garish blue/green 70s floral wallpaper. You can’t tell in the picture, but it also had sparkles. The same bathroom, with a fantastically tasteful glow up. The new wallpaper is pale blue coral and seahorses.

The life and death of May Pollard, 16, provides a window into the tragic effect that legislation and political rhetoric have had on trans people in America.

Nuthatch. An older comic.
A four-panel comic. The first panel shows an arrow pointing down at a happy-looking nuthatch bird, and a caption: This is a nuthatch. The caption says "It's called a nuthatch because... wait no" and we see the nuthatch standing on a pile of nuts, tucking them under it. The caption says "That's not... wait" and the nuthatch is roosting comfortably on the pile of nuts. The caption says NO. And we see that one of the nuts has hatched and some walnut meat is flying happily into the air on little wings.
