Did you know you can use camera gear for other purposes? A magic arm and clamp make a pretty good pcb holder

A tripod with a magic arm and a clamp holding a PCB. The magic arm is an articulated arm with an elbow going in the middle and a ball joint on either end. There's a tightening nut on the middle elbow joint that secured all three joints

It's actually doing something similar to working! The shift register's power pin wasn't soldered right so the LEDs weren't lighting up. The pattern is wrong and the button and switches don't work properly though, so still work to do!

cool, I managed to brick a pi4 2GB while setting up batocera Not batocera's fault. Not sure what happened I was getting 5v on the 3.3v pin so something was wrong. Now I have a short from 3.3 to gnd... sooo not so good. I have others, but it's not like they grow on trees

I tried some hot plate soldering for the first time. It went well enough for a first try, lots of solder bridges though! I was placing the paste by hand though and I got a bit sloppy I guess

My oldest kid wants a capybara bubble tea themed birthday party so I came up with this as an invitation design. So far I'm pretty happy with it!

2 sides of a birthday invitation shaped like a front view of a capybara drinking bubble tea. The front of the invitation has details drawn in and the backside is just a light beige with some placeholder text.

At the bottom of the back side are 4 capybaras walking. They each have a party hat on but one of them has it on their nose instead of head. 2 of them have a balloon tied around their waist. The other two have cups of bubble tea on their backs.

I think I've nearly perfected this VFX sequence that I've been using for video outros in this latest video. I'm pretty happy with the tile-based transition to GameBoy graphics/hardware. It gives me enough time to talk yet it's not subtle, so I'm hoping it can keep attention till the end

I've been a little less focused on making videos lately and I've been sewing instead. I made these robes for my partner + kids to wear to a camping/festival thing they're going to in a few weeks. The blue adult one is in muslin and the kids' are cotton voile. The muslin was WAY more forgiving!

Hoping to learn to visualize crochet work I decided to make a 3d model in blender. I'm not sure it helped...

a 3d model of the path yarn takes in crochet. It's a lot of loops... so many loops. It's a short chain stitch with one "single crochet".

Proof of concept of another #vfx idea I had in my head. It's made with #davinciresolve and #blender. The pixels' movement is controlled by a video texture with the velocities baked into the rgb channels (z dir is acceleration e.g. gravity)
