I'm going to be running D&D for some young kids and I wanted some pictures to help them remember different actions during combat so I drew some up! I'm pretty happy with the little stick-ish figures. I think I got some dynamicness in them
11 simple drawings with labels

1) attack: two swords clashing
2) dash: a stick character running
3) disengage: a stick character backing away from a little round monster
4) dodge: a stick character kinda bending to one side with an explosion going off beside them
5) help: two stick figures, one is down on a knee using its hands to give a lift to another trying to reach a huge diamond that's up high
6) hide: a small brick wall with a character peeking out from behind
7) influence: a speech bubble containing a flower, a smiley face, and a peace sign
8) magic: a magic wand with stars near one end
9) search: a magnifying glass with a question mark inside
10) study: an eye
11) utilize: a hand

Did you know you can use camera gear for other purposes? A magic arm and clamp make a pretty good pcb holder
A tripod with a magic arm and a clamp holding a PCB. The magic arm is an articulated arm with an elbow going in the middle and a ball joint on either end. There's a tightening nut on the middle elbow joint that secured all three joints

It's actually doing something similar to working! The shift register's power pin wasn't soldered right so the LEDs weren't lighting up. The pattern is wrong and the button and switches don't work properly though, so still work to do!

I tried some hot plate soldering for the first time. It went well enough for a first try, lots of solder bridges though! I was placing the paste by hand though and I got a bit sloppy I guess

My oldest kid wants a capybara bubble tea themed birthday party so I came up with this as an invitation design. So far I'm pretty happy with it!
2 sides of a birthday invitation shaped like a front view of a capybara drinking bubble tea. The front of the invitation has details drawn in and the backside is just a light beige with some placeholder text.

At the bottom of the back side are 4 capybaras walking. They each have a party hat on but one of them has it on their nose instead of head. 2 of them have a balloon tied around their waist. The other two have cups of bubble tea on their backs.

I think I've nearly perfected this VFX sequence that I've been using for video outros in this latest video. I'm pretty happy with the tile-based transition to GameBoy graphics/hardware. It gives me enough time to talk yet it's not subtle, so I'm hoping it can keep attention till the end

The angle might be misleading. Here's another one from the above

A more polished version. I think I prefer this transition between the fake and real GameBoy. Still some jank on the background removal around the GameBoy. Not sure if I'll bother fixing it.

a rough draft of a VFX clip I'm working on for a video. Still trying to decide how I want the transition from the line-art GameBoy to the real one to work. I'm not the biggest fan of the current technique. Also the text on GameBoy is just placeholder for now

This is one of the most absurd fake amazon product photos I've seen. It's great
A product image for a power-tool-battery powered hot glue gun. The image is of a toddler sitting on a woman's lap. The toddler has a shrunken down image of the glue gun photoshopped into her hand. She is pointing it at the woman's hand where the women is holding 2 toy blocks. It looks like the todler is going to glue the blocks.

I've been a little less focused on making videos lately and I've been sewing instead. I made these robes for my partner + kids to wear to a camping/festival thing they're going to in a few weeks. The blue adult one is in muslin and the kids' are cotton voile. The muslin was WAY more forgiving!

Hoping to learn to visualize crochet work I decided to make a 3d model in blender. I'm not sure it helped...
a 3d model of the path yarn takes in crochet. It's a lot of loops... so many loops. It's a short chain stitch with one "single crochet".

Trying to get back to my #gameboy graphics videos and decided the best idea is to significantly change my rendering workflow

I can crochet now! Not well but that should come with experience I hope I've tried to learn a few times before but never got it. For some reason this time it clicked!

I also cleaned up the #davincifusion and #blender node graphs so that I'll hopefully understand them if I ever come back to them
A davinci resolve fusion node graph used to generate the timing video that controls when and how pixels fall.A blender geometry node graph that generates a 256x144 grid of independent pixel squares, applies the gameboy-style video as a texture to the pixels, and uses the control video generated with davinci resolve to control when and how the pixel squares move.

I refined the animation a bit so that it's a little more interesting / dynamic
120
Jesse Doherty @jesse.dhrt.ca · 18/06/2026
Proof of concept of another #vfx idea I had in my head. It's made with #davinciresolve and #blender. The pixels' movement is controlled by a video texture with the velocities baked into the rgb channels (z dir is acceleration e.g. gravity)

More #blender #gameboy animation playing I'm still trying to figure out animation timing and what looks good. I've still got some learning to do with it!

Here's the same #blender scene rendered normally. The #gameboy is displaying a prerendered version of this scene with the game boy style. It's the same rendering as the post above

Here's a slightly more complicated #blender scene with some random dithering. Hopefully it's obvious that the thing on the left is a #gameboy

These are some out of context screen grabs from my latest video: youtu.be/GtGfZ5f3s20 The context doesn't actually help for all of them though. The video's about disassemblers and why they're hard and impossible!
A collage of 4 pictures of me with the text "disassemblers?" overlayed. The pictures are of me dressed in midievally clothes writing with a quill, me in a bathtub wearing a top hat playing a gameboy, me facing the camera with light beams emanating around me from behind me, and red monochrome image of me in a messing and cramped workbench in a top hat, a tailcoat, and bowtie and wearing goggles

I was playing around with repeating pattern drawing and came up with these two
a repeating image. The repeated image consists of two game boys connected by a link cable, one game boy has headphones. There's a slice of pica, 4 AA batteries, and a magazine that looks like a game guide or somethingA repeating pattern of game boys and multi-link adapters all connected together.

I accomplished a thing! Took longer than expected because of surprise brick. Also would have been easier if my walls were flat. Turned out pretty good though Now to clean up...
A set of white ikea besta cabinets hung on a dark green wall. There are two rows of 5 cabinets. The top row has short rectangle cabinets and the bottom row square ones. The middle 3 bottom row cabinets have glass doors, the rest are solid. There are lights mounted in glass doored cabinets.

The ceiling and other walls are white.

Here's a break down of the steps to produce the result. On the left are two raw noise patterns Those get thresholded to b/w, they're the bitplanes They get decoded into pixels for each colour Then the colours are applied Finally the 4 sets of pixels are combined into the 8x8 tile

Am I making a 2-bit-per-pixel palette-based rendering for a randomized 8x8 tile in davinci resolve fusion? ... yes #davinciresolve

Making good priorities again! and more #blender playing The game boy is actually a 3d model that I made and textured. Couldn't have just used a flat image, nope. The moving grids are animated tiled textures. The "road" uses an image sequence, the "floor" animates by moning the UV coords.

Made some more movie covers to add variety
a 3d rendered scene like the interior of a blockbuster. I'm facing away from the camera. The movie shelves are filled with different movies with covers I made using photos of myself.12 movie covers made using pictures of me and various youtube related titles.

The titles are:
Like & Subscribe The Movie
Lost in the Views
Digging for Likes
The Wild Content
The Likes
The 40 Year-Old YouTuber
The Views Inside
They Came For My Likes

The rest have no title

Added more detail to this #blender scene. I think the improvement-to-effort ratio is getting a lot lower now though... There are a few details I want to add, and probably make more movie covers. I'm not sure if it's getting close to "good enough" though 😬

Trying to get some randomization going. I have the number of copies in each stack randomized and each copy in a stack has a random side to side shift so they look more natural. I also want more movie covers but that requires making a bunch more of them
a 3d render of a bunch of forward facing stacks of movie cases placed in a 6x6 grid, like they might be placed in a video rental store.

Each stack has a random number of copies between 0 and 5. Each copy in the stacks have a random side to side shift to give a more organic look.
