Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents. I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents.

This article is the best I have read so far this year and I think it will keep that award until the end of the year. It is a hard, painful read, but so well described and flipping the historiographical table. It keeps me thinking about what a sustained comparison with Protestant regions would bring.

Deze zaterdag werd ik Laureaat van de Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten in de Klasse Menswetenschappen. Dat is een hele eer en een mooie bekroning van mijn werk. Ik ben de KVAB, die momenteel door erg moeilijke wateren gaat, hier bijzonder erkentelijk voor.

Vandaag gaan heel wat kinderen van deur tot deur om Sint-Maartenliedjes te zingen waarvoor ze dan allerlei snoepgoed krijgen. Er kan ook aan de begeleidende (groot)ouders gedacht worden en een glas wijn geschonken worden 😉 Op Sint-Maartensdag werd de nieuwe wijn geproefd voor die de kelders in ging.

De ironie van de geschiedenis: de Vlaamse regering zet het mes in instellingen die historisch onderzoek naar de geschiedenis en taal van Vlaanderen mogelijk maken: de Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten, de KANTL, sociale en humane wetenschappen aan de universiteit.
