I was very excited to get an email from Hyperoptic. Finally: they are ready to install in my street, I thought! But no, it was a message to say that having held my data for 3 years they will now delete it. Hyperoptic: more hype than optic.

In 1995 John Major wrong-footed his opponents and seized the initiative by resigning the Tory leadership then winning it back handsomely in his "put up or shut up" election. It bought him another two years. Shame that Starmer is not that bold.

Seems weird for an official inquiry to blame the parents and I’m not sure how helpful it is. However culpable they might be they are not accountable taxpayer funded public agencies

Is the Iran war a sign that Trump has lost interest in the Nobel Peace Prize or that he is doubling down on that goal?

Save for one recent botched attempt, DHSC have not explained why they cancelled the NIHR Maximising Impact & Public Partnerships contract & what they will do instead (which they presumably think is better). This is piss-poor in my view & an insult to all those working in patient/public involvement

As a Jew, what makes me even sadder is that other Jews are happy to act as Farage's useful idiots in this pantomime. What are they thinking? Where is their sense of history? Where is their solidarity with other minorities? Massive fail

Yes this is a highly questionable decision, poorly managed, poorly communicated and I suspect in ignorance of the likely consequences

I don’t doubt Ukraine has a corruption problem but I can’t help wondering if their anti corruption agency has been infiltrated by Russia?

We are a long way indeed from systematically collecting and acting on the voices of patients. Abolishing Healthwatch and handing responsibility for its work to ICBs (which are themselves undergoing massive reorganisation) is in my own view a very bad move indeed by DHSC.

Is it legally possible to defame someone who is immune to defamation? The world is divided into people who already think Trump is a c*** and those who worship him either regardless or because of what he does. So how can his reputation ever be damaged?

You’re right to be angry. It is the abandonment of decency by a party that once claimed to be serious. These people are wicked and heartless opportunists who would sell their own grandmothers for a few votes.

Re Charlie Kirk it is possible to believe that political violence is always wrong and also that some people bring the violence upon themselves through their own violent rhetoric. In other words it is possible to hold more than one thought in one’s head at the same time.

Israel committing genocide in Gaza, say Israel-based human rights groups
Reports detailing killing of children and elderly, forced displacement and starvation likely to add to pressure for action * Middle East crisis – live updates Two leading human rights organisations based in Israel, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights, say Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the country’s western allies have a legal and moral duty to stop it. In reports published on Monday, the two groups said Israel had targeted civilians in Gaza only because of their identity as Palestinians over nearly two years of war, causing severe and in some cases irreparable damage to Palestinian society.
