It seems like @bsky.app could solve their bot problem by simply not allowing anyone with the name "Julie" to sign up.
A screenshot of my recent new followers, four out of the five of which use the display name “Julie” and are clearly bots.

Like, what is this animation choice? Who decided that this menu should violently shudder every time you open it?

Golden Gate is such a huge improvement over Tahoe, but what is the point of a toolbar background that only appears when a window is backgrounded?
A comparison of the Messages window in macOS Golden Gate when it’s foregrounded and backgrounded. When the window is foregrounded, there’s no toolbar background behind the compose, contact details, and FaceTime buttons. When the window is backgrounded, there is.

Firefox, why are you like this.
Three website shortcuts on the Firefox “new tab” page. The label for the middle one, “HeyDesigner” drops just the “r” down to the second line rather than hyphenating or truncating.

This is the exact moment of the keynote where I, as a UX designer, broke out in a cold sweat.

I need everyone to see how hard the Phoenix Closures logo went in the 90s before they decided to ruin it in 2018.
A visual comparison of the bold 1990 logo that makes excellent use of white space, and the weird not-quite-monoline 2018 logo with barely recognizable bird and fire elements.

It also gave my very first user maybe the greatest password ever created, so there's that.

Nice little design detail in Indigo by @soapboxsoftware.bsky.social. User avatar overlaps image carousel when the carousel scrolls.

Then, in March, students at my eleven-year-old daughter's public middle school began receiving new Google Chromebooks, and that is when I heard the tap-tap of the cloven hooves approaching our doorstep. The Chromebooks, which the students use in every class and for homework, came pre-installed with an all-ages version of Gemini, a suite of A.I. tools. When my daughter, who is in sixth grade, begins writing an essay, she gets a prompt: "Help me write." If she is starting work on a slide-show presentation, the prompt is "Help me visualize." She shoos away these interruptions, but they persist: "Help me edit." "Beautify this slide." The image generator is there, if she'd ever wish to pull the plug on her imagination. The Gemini chatbot is there, if she ever wants to talk to no one.

I asked @figma.com's AI to fill in these descriptions with lorem ipsum text and the result came out absolutely cursed.

If @adobe.com is going to make me keep Creative Cloud (and its dozens of helper apps) on my computer to manage my Adobe app installations, you'd think the least they could do would be to prevent this from happening.
A macOS error dialog that says "You can't open the application 'Adobe Photoshop 2026' because it may be damaged or incomplete."

This is the greatest bracket UI I’ve ever seen. Whoever at Apple had a hand in this, bravo.

When Apple replaced all the sheets with floating dialog boxes, that's when we should've realized that macOS software design was in decline.

Noticed the PayPal app got a new icon. Opened it up to see if they had updated anything else about the design. Got hit with 8 different layout shifts or UI stutters in 9 seconds.

Is it just me, or does the iPhone 17 Pro come off as vaguely cyberpunk to anyone else?

Tim Cook is using a familiar strategy to stay in Donald Trump’s good graces: handing him a shiny toy and telling him he can keep it.

The worst thing about Substack is all the nazi stuff, but the second worst thing is how many of its newsletters use Spectral as a body text font. I made a Safari extension that replaces it with something more readable. apps.apple.com/us/app/spect...
There are plenty of great fonts for reading on the web. Spectral isn't one of them.

I want to love Firefox, but this is absolutely unhinged UI.

I started work with a new client a couple weeks ago and this is how new frames were getting numbered in their existing files, so this feature has actually been a godsend.

A Mastodon post from Cabel Sasser with a picture of a 10-digit smart lock with only 5 buttons, each button being shared by a pair of digits.

It’s accompanied by the caption “in life, sometimes you're half as secure as you think you are” and a follow up post that says “correction: as some smart math folks have pointed out, in this instance you're actually 6.25% secure as you think you are.”

At some point we need a retrospective on this moment of design in the auto industry. How did we get to a point where Hyundai has (in my opinion) the best looking EV and every luxury brand is putting out absolute garbage?

Well this is unfortunately the realest thing I've ever read. trends.uxdesign.cc/2025
We’re handing our design systems to growth teams so they can squeeze every last penny out of customers. We're optimizing our flows for clicks, not clarity. We stopped building tools and started building engagement traps. While in the past UX had a certain aura of care for users, in 2024 we are bluntly following the numbers. In many companies, the pursuit of growth is overshadowing the pursuit of meaning.
