Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Happy day! These look like my old mates from the Belco Markets (?) 110
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 25/07/2025@bsky.app Max Porter's first novel has been adapted for stage, and opens in Sydney this weekend. Here's my view of the novel.theconversation.comMythical, slippery, shapeshifting: Grief is the Thing With Feathers transforms tragedy into literatureMax Porter’s stories of people on the margins are told in fragments, flickering images, surprising swirls of language and wit. 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 24/07/2025(I should correct that — it’s not the article’s headline but the BBC’s summary of the day’s news that makes that assertion) 000
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 24/07/2025Journalism, be better! BBC headline makes the assertion: 'Democrats have effectively shut down the House of Representatives until September by repeatedly forcing Republicans to vote against – or dodge – measures to release the "Epstein files".' Really?bbc.comUS House speaker shuts down chamber to block Epstein voteThe decision to bring forward the summer recess means Republican leaders can delay a politically fraught vote on the disclosures. 110

Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 11/05/2025It’s astounding that he’s the president. Talk about a failed state! 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 11/05/2025Snopes investigations note that it isn’t clear which election he was talking about; also Trump is utterly incoherent at the best of times, so it’s really difficult to use his ramblings as evidence. 100
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 11/05/2025I’ve read some murmurings about the election having been rigged but haven’t seen evidence of it. Do you have evidence? 210
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 06/05/2025Excellent essay! I loved reading it and feel better informed 000
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 06/05/2025What an excellent account of poetry, poetics, and this almost-invisible poet. Thank you! 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 05/05/2025In Australia, bunyip may be a mythical monster, or an imposter, depending on the context. In 19th century Aust there was an attempt to establish a British-style system of titles, which was derided as a “bunyip aristocracy”; the term now revived for Trump wanna-be’s in local politics. 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 04/05/2025Yes! It was skilfully and effectively done — and very necessary. Thank you 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 04/05/2025There are so many take-always from this weekend’s election, but one I particularly like is the term “bunyip Trumpism” (viz, what was repudiated and rejected by voters) 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 03/05/2025I can’t stop smiling atm, it this made me shout with laughter 😍 010
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 12/04/2025When my smart watch is on the the charger instead of on my wrist, I resent taking any steps or even any breaths because if they aren’t being recorded, what’s the point? (I know I’m being stupid; but still I feel those are wasted steps/breaths 😂) 000

Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 04/04/20251. Sydney cranes; notice how often cranes are found in monogamous pairs. 2. A verandah in which I would NEVER set foot. Oh Sydney, you crazy darling. 000
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 04/04/2025From the unsinkable John Birmingham, speaking of …? “A collapsing orange supergiant of mental illness and morbid spite who self-detonates the US economy to, what, take out a bunch of fentanyl penguins on Heard Island?” 010

Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 15/03/2025I have (some) respect for the Washington Post but this tin-eared attitude to abuse of a native animal really misses the mark. Dude, this is not performative ire; it’s protection of local wildlife from some attention-seeking “influencer” 000
Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 13/03/2025Tonight I attended a brilliant lecture by Dist.Prof Phil Morgan of Cardiff U, specialist in autonomous vehicles; and came home to be shown the cartoon in this week’s New Scientist. Serendipity. Shout out to my glorious colleagues in the Collaborative Robotics Lab at the University of Canberra. 010

Jen Webb @jenwebb58.bsky.social · 15/02/2025It took me a full day once (9 to 5) to travel from Aberystwyth to Norwich by train. And last year it took five hours standing all the way (despite my booked seat) from York to London. I love trains but they’re chaotically scheduled / managed 110
