The only surprising part of this story is that someone at @forbes.com actually got fired for taking money. Forbes is quite infamous as being one of the largest news sites where their writers will take $$ in exchange for coverage and links. via @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/2026/08/12/b...

Someone uploaded an actual Monet, said it was made by AI and asked what made it so obviously AI... And the responses about how terrible a job AI did are something else. petapixel.com/2026/05/14/s...

Someone Shared a Real Monet Painting as AI and Asked for Critiques
Someone shared a real Monet painting as an AI image and asked for critiques as to why AI art is inferior to the real thing. Hilarity ensued.

Geez, what did Google do that I am suddenly getting a ton of push notifications from their app... and only one has been for something I would be remotely interested in. And worst, the snippet isn't even big enough to know if you'd be interested because most of the text is "See more on <keywords>"

Aw, sad to see this little easter egg no longer exists in Google Maps. @methode.bsky.social you need to have a word with that team :) Also a little confused why in Canada it is asking me to ensure the state and zip code are correct when we use provinces and postal codes here.

And it is so wordy when needing to use it in a conference presentation too! Just about as bad as me having to repeatedly say E-E-A-T from Google's quality rater guidelines too LOL.

Yes, there are undoubtedly some great sites down in those positions that may tank poorly for other reasons, but the fact so many results are pulled from 50+ is astonishing. But it does let Google say hey AIO sites get more traffic than in the regular search results.

Yeah, it is kind of incredible that a lot of queries seem to have no "higher standards" being applied to when you see the urine kidney stones example. And also the thing @ryanjones.bsky.social said where a ton of sources for AIO are pulled from position 50 or higher.

Produce content with short, easily digested chunks… 2-3 lines per paragraph… liberal use of images and bulleted lists. Good for LLMs. @ericenge.bsky.social #pubcon

You don’t need to optimize for what a user is searching, but you also need to rank for what AI is searching to show the results for the user’s query. #pubcon @ryanjones.bsky.social

Think about how you can attribute sales via Overviews. If you show uo in AIO, people are buying your product - even if its not on your own site - then it is a win. But you also need to measure it and not all companies do, so they think AIO successes could be losses. #pubcon @ryanjones.bsky.social

Stop thinking of keywords, think of semantic relevance. Stop thinking organic rankings, but think of share of voice and visibility. Stop thinking of the algorithm so much, start thinking of systems. #pubcon @ryanjones.bsky.social

Why does Sindar say you get more clicks from AI Overviews? Because 46% of sites in overviews are ranking in position 50 or higher for the same query, so yes, those sites are getting more clicks. @ryanjones.bsky.social #pubcon

You can add “-ai” to your search to hide Google’s AI overview in the search results. I bet it will become the next adding “reddit” to the search query trick (unless Google decides to break it?) Also, fun party trick: try searching “-ai” on Google Trends and watch it meltdown LOL

Wow: after 15 years, YouTube has taken down the original 'Rick Roll' video due to a "licensing issue," likely due to the acquisition of Astley's record lable. The metadata remains, but if you click through it goes to 'video not found': www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4...

Does anyone have data on % of traffic that disable adblockers when presented with the "please support us" with or without the option to "view site without unblocking this time"? Lots of data on percentage of users with ad blockers, but not behavior when it is suggested to unblock on a site.

I did a Google search for a Norwegian word and AI overviews told me it is the name of some random player character in World of Warcraft with their character name, level, guild and server, with a link to their WoW character page. And no, this isn't some world first raider profile either.

Which also reminds me... any of the evening meet and greet type of functions, please have some non-alcoholic options, even just bottles of water or keep the coffee around LOL. So often it is beer/wine only, with no other drink options :(

A couple conferences I went to had coffee kiosks/carts for those of us who wanted frou frou lattes instead... we don't expect it to be free, but the option to get one is A+ One conference had 100% of the proceeds for the fancy coffees go to charity which was an amazing idea.

It wasn't until I went to "Contact Us" that I finally found they are in Webb, Alabama. I went to their competitive news station, and the same issue, but at least they had more content on their homepage other than a bunch of links LOL.

Not every visitor is from your area and the fact it doesn't even state the cities/counties/state they are serving is just so bad for user experience. Even the About Us page? Bios of staff and nothing else about where they are. Local News? Nope, just links to news stories, not even a blurb.

I am shocked how many small regional news sites don't tell you where they are, especially small local affiliate TV stations. Watched a documentary and ended up here: www.wdhn.com and where is it? My only hints on the homepage were "for the wiregrass", a random city name for weather... and that's it.

Tables so we don't have to balance laptops on our knees while trying to write about the interesting things the speakers are saying. Coffee available all day, not just before lunch. Also, don't freeze everyone and make me wish for snuggies swag... which is also partially solved by all day coffee LOL
