I got a bunch of tattoos and have a few more planned. I wear whatever I feel like wearing, which of late means a lot of fun t-shirts with jeans and bright sneakers. Finally got over my fears and tried out/got on Jeopardy!, I wasn't ready to go out on that limb in my 20s or 30s.

accurate (Michigan kid who's lived in MPLS for a long time), and also kinda funny because I lived in ATL for 5 years and "y'all talk funny" was one of the first things I heard when I moved there 🙃

dialect heat map of the US with red areas concentrated around Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, and blue areas concentrated around the southern US

Top three most similar dialect cities: Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Seattle. Top three least similar dialect cities: New Orleans, Houston, Atlanta. Things that gave me away as being from Michigan: the night before Halloween is devil's night, rubber soled athletic shoes are guy shoes, sweetened carbonated beverage is pop, and the water dispenser at school is a drinking fountain

I thought there was a fitting parallel between these incidents about the high price paid by ordinary people when aggressive regimes try out new tactics of war, as well as a fitting juxtaposition of the darkness of living such an experience and the light we shone through it in our own resistance and care for one another. The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’”
