I worked on the Android team for YEARS and I just learned that you can turn on "Clipboard History" on GBoard. So many useful features are just too hard to find/setup.

I'm at a bar and this happens. Apparently it's called CNC snowfill engraving. I had to buy another drink just to capture it in action

I've now sorted my cables: 1. Legacy 2.0 cables 2. 3.1 cables with higher data and modest power 3. 3.2/4.0 cables that did more data, power and video 4. Thunderbolt cables. (there are even variations within each camp! What I'd like to see is some color coding on the plugs...

I'm watching the first season* of the British tv show The Avengers. It is shockingly good! I'm only two shows in and I'm hooked. The writing, the characters, and the overall vibe are so much more than I expected * Season 1 was lost, I'm actually starting with season 2

I have a drawer with a ziplock bag for each type of USB cable. And for years I've had one bag for USB-C to C. I'm finally just giving in, buying a cable tester, and breaking them up into USB-C power only, USB-C power+data, and USB-C video, because this is just getting out of control.

Image from a talk at #localfirst conference. We've all seen cartoons like this. It's clearly AI generated but WHY is it so obvious? You'd think the models could produce something with a little variation so they aren't so stylistically identical?
Typical AI cartoon image, this I've showing a waiter bringing an order to two people sitting at a table

Arrived at 08:30 Saturday in Berlin for the local first conference (starting tomorrow) I've got the speakers lunch in 3 hours but otherwise my day is wide open. Any suggestions on what I should be checking out here in sunny Berlin?

"Oh no! We forgot Timmy!" I know I'm on a tear right now with Automobile #UX but messages like this just have me scratching my head? Yes, I know, baby's have been left in cars but two extremely obvious points: 1. It is a statistically insignificant number 2. This message wouldn't help anyway.

Yet another Auto UX video. This time with my Škoda Auto rental. It's a great little car but I had an unsafe #UX experience which could have easily been avoided.

I visited the Helsinki Library and it has a frigg'n makerspace in the middle of it! Laster cutters, 3D printers, Vinyl cutters, all for nearly free. It also has "video game rooms", general meeting rooms, 2 cafes and a restaurant! It's astounding what you can have if you fund public works.

Using genAI really shows how little we appreciate OTHERs. It allows someone to be average in fields they know very little about. The mistake is thinking this is a good thing. Pure Dunning-Kruger. This is a critique of us, not genAI.

I know, I know, there is power here, but it takes an enormous effort and shift in workflow over many weeks to eventually see results. It's a very big ask. It feels a lot like this

Delays can kill your design. This is a reenactment but close to what I experienced. I tried it, got nothing so tried pushing it instead. It wasn't until my 4th try that I realized it was just very very slow (~1000ms delay!!!) <100ms feels nearly instant, >400ms starts to feel broken. #UX #ID

Just updated to the latest Android drop for my pixel 10 and I love this new minimal icon theme. It significantly reduces the intensity of the display. My theory is that it will discourage me from using it a bit less. I'll monitor the stats and see.

Interesting retail #ux observation: the coffeeshop and the sandwich shop with standard human cashiers were hopping busy. The automated QR code driven pizza place was a total ghost town. This was at LAX

"Devil is in the #UX details" Department I've been playing this 2-person game with my wife for years and this starter page always drives me a bit bonkers, it's just so fiddly to get started, the unnecessary tapping just feels like such an obvious thing to fix.

Yesterday, I noticed a table view with a hover highlight that just felt "flickery." Sure, it worked. It's even what we expect. But inspired by Amber Case and her "Calm Technology" manifesto, I wondered if there was a way to make this simple, even trivial, interaction feel more analogue and calm.

Small #UX design exploration. Which style do you prefer? I built this because a famous message app uses one of these styles and it felt distracting. Which do you prefer and why? This *is* a small detail, but it unlocks a much deeper principle about when and why to use animation.

Google is flexing its Chrome muscles. Having this type of easy #UX simplified access has a good chance to pull in "Late adopters" as they don't care much for apps, URLs or even brands. Note: I'm not making any supportive comments about the viability of LLMs. This is a about #UX.

This is YouTube's latest & it's an accessibility crime. The contrast ratio is 2:1 which is just should be a non-starter. Some clever person on the youtube team though that putting a tiny little shadow on the text would fix it but even then the contrast comes in at 3:1. #UX #accessibility

My *wife* just got an offer to purchase *me*. I'd like to think I'm pretty progressive on nearly every social issue, but this is just a bit too far.... yes, yes, I know this is some type of scam/phishing ploy but a) it's pretty funny and b) it's just so incredibly bizarre.

Another simple #UX design foiled by poor execution. The "go" button fails to register a firm press, you must only lightly "tap" the button for it to work. My wife was completely confused and couldn't figure out why the kettle wasn't working.

The original Mac had a screen that was roughly the same size as a modern iPad Mini. So many fundamental desktop #UX features, like overlapping windows and a global menu bar, make so much more sense given that constraint. How would they change now that we have MUCH larger displays?

So enjoying #Hades2. I don't even like twitchy fighting games all that much but this one has an amazing story and gameplay. I just beat the first boss and felt that "dark souls rush" at finally doing it after 10 tries. Maybe that's it, it's kind of like Dark Souls but for more casual gamers...
