Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 18mVery interesting! By simplifying the window chrome do you mean you got rid of the title bar? How are you dragging the window with the super key? 000
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 29/09/2026As I spoke at KDE I'm using that but honestly, it might be better to pick something like Ubuntu or Debian as the goal is to get as many as possible to use it. I'm hopeful that if you get it to work for any of these three, the other two aren't that hard to support. 200
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 29/09/2026Give it a shot! I expect it'll work on other distros as well? 010
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 29/09/2026I"ve had some interest in building it. Still talking. Nothing even close to shipping unfortunately. 300
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/09/2026I'm not against an Niri at all! It's well loved and it solves a problem well. It's solving a slightly different problem. I'm trying to find that mix between windows that you focus on in the center and a periphery of all of your windows that you can see at the same time. 120
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/09/2026I would actually even argue Niri is the opposite of what I'm doing. It fills the screen with your window and then aggressively scrolls things off to the sides. It's also very heavily dependent on keyboard shortcuts, which is very good for power users, but I don't think approachable for novices. 110
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/09/2026Oh, I think there are LOTS of things yet to explore. As I said in my talk, it's important to play with something, be honest about what isn't working, and keep improving it. 010
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 25/09/2026I think anything that allows more advanced users to "quick switch" needs to be explored. 000
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 25/09/2026I never saw that. I had to did into the 'settings area' and turn it on. 000
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 24/09/2026I worked on the Android team for YEARS and I just learned that you can turn on "Clipboard History" on GBoard. So many useful features are just too hard to find/setup. 4221

Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 24/09/2026I love it when people ask me to push even further! You're right of course, we could go further. This is a great idea to think about. It shares similar ideas to my Eloquent text editing project (which I referenced in my talk jenson.org/go/textjenson.orgEloquent: Improving Text Editing on MobileEnjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube. 120
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 23/09/2026completely agree! I'm starting off slowly, trying to build up a learning/understanding of what works and what doesn't (e.g. the morph effect on window content). I see these demos as just the beginning. They aren't ready to "ship" just yet, it needs more exploration. 020
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 23/09/2026Thanks! Glad you liked it. I've learned from previous projects that a good idea never survives the first prototype: you've got to iterate it a few times. I'd like to build something to learn not ship. It'll take a few tries. 030
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 22/09/2026I do think we could be even more exploratory and go into a stronger "VR Style" of window management. This really was just a first attempt at the problem. I hope that once I can get a version of this actually running as a real window manager we could push it further. 120
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 21/09/2026Thanks! apparently I need and invite to lobste.rs Would you mind? I'm at scott@jenson.org 120
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 21/09/2026My "Future of Desktop UX (part 2)" talk at #KDE Akademy is now up and it's racking up lots of views. I'm excited people want to discuss this more. Now I just need someone with Wayland experience to help me prototype this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7Af...youtube.comScott Jenson: Are we really going to use the same Desktop UX forever?YouTube video by The KDE Community 2112123
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 15/09/2026VoiceInk. It allows you to download a few different open local models. I'm frankly shocked at how well it works with respect to tech vocabulary and even punctuation. 151
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 15/09/2026I'm now using a local on-device voice to text transcriber on my computer and it is revolutionizing how I input text. It allows me to write much longer passages than I would normally want to by hand. Downside: I have to lock myself in my office as using it in the living room frustrates my wife. 3371
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 05/09/2026I've got an experiment where I've got a visual timeline of your pages, calling out the more important ones. it tries to get beyond the chain of events that you talked about. It still a work in progress 040
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 17/08/2026I'm at a bar and this happens. Apparently it's called CNC snowfill engraving. I had to buy another drink just to capture it in action 090
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 07/08/2026Totally fair. It's a tradeoff but I found the overall boldness of this "let's maket the labels BIG" to be refreshing and not seen often. Always something to improve... 000
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 07/08/2026Now THIS is an elevator panel. Sure it's a bit over the top but it is exceptionally clear and #a11y friendly. Car rental area Minneapolis #ux 4361
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 06/08/2026If you compare them to AAA apps then sure. But 99% is apps are crap and can easily be done by a PWA. The argument isn't that PWA s are superior, it's that they are adequate and in many ways much simpler to develop 130
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 04/08/2026Do PWAs have an image problem? I was talking with someone today about using a PWA instead of two native apps and there was some resistance. As you can put PWAs in app stores (either directly or through a wrapper), I'm not seeing the reason to avoid them. Please let me know what I'm missing... 9130

Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 30/07/2026I've now sorted my cables: 1. Legacy 2.0 cables 2. 3.1 cables with higher data and modest power 3. 3.2/4.0 cables that did more data, power and video 4. Thunderbolt cables. (there are even variations within each camp! What I'd like to see is some color coding on the plugs... 1171
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 30/07/2026I'm watching the first season* of the British tv show The Avengers. It is shockingly good! I'm only two shows in and I'm hooked. The writing, the characters, and the overall vibe are so much more than I expected * Season 1 was lost, I'm actually starting with season 2 050
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 29/07/2026That is very cool! Thank you for sharing. I've got it installed and it works very well. 020
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 29/07/2026I have a drawer with a ziplock bag for each type of USB cable. And for years I've had one bag for USB-C to C. I'm finally just giving in, buying a cable tester, and breaking them up into USB-C power only, USB-C power+data, and USB-C video, because this is just getting out of control. 4200
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 27/07/2026I tried, until it ran out of tokens... ;-) Clearly I got stuck in a bad setup, e.g. low thinking. This is clearly fixable, but it's funny that 'asking pi to fix itself' is exactly what it can't do (at least easily) in this situation. 010
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026I totally get that, but with the default output token max set to a ridiculous 4K, it completely freezes the harness if you ask it to tie its shoes, which makes it a little difficult to get anything done out of the box and to unwind that Gordian knot took a little time. 000
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026Fair, but that completely falls over when you hit output token max. It defaults to something ridiculously small like 4K. So I'm doing the most basic thing and it goes, "oh, we've hit a limit. compacting...." which freezes everything. I *can't* ask the harness to do anything at that point 110
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026I've actually made progress here (e.g. using gemini-flash for a clipboard screenshot but quen for the coding) so there are glimmers of hope. I'm just surprised the defaults are so restrictive so I have to edit a TON of config files to just 'make things go'. That restricting doesn't feel necessary 130
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026My goal was reasonable: setup the harness so I can use more local/open models and therefore use frontier models less often. Clearly I can /switch-model at any point with any harness but pi made implied I could have it fire per command (or even different models w/in a single command. 130
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026All of the _cool kids_ are using pi.dev and I so wanted to be cool but honestly, I think I'm going to take you up on those suggestions. Thanks! 140
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026I know, I know, maybe it wasn't built for me. But some the choices (like ridiculously small output token limits) just boggle my mind. There needs to be a "JustMakeItGo" extension that adjusts these silly defaults so I can actually, you know, ask it a question and it replies with out crashing. 430
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026Anyone else trying to use pi.dev? I'm not sure I've ever used a product that has repeatedly punched me in the face so many times. I love the idea but even if I try to use it out of the box, it still falls over and breaks. I'm 2 weeks into it and I'm FAR from parity with claude code.pi.devPi Coding AgentA terminal-based coding agent 7130
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 26/07/2026It drives me NUTS! Especially when I actually try and use them and it completely falls over, e.g. a passkey in one chrome profile does'nt work in another. A passkey on one device means I now can't log in from another device. etc. THey have f'ed up my life so many times and they are STILL a mystery 240
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 22/07/2026Is anybody using DFOS? I learned about it a LocalFirst a few weeks ago and I wanted to check it out. It appears to be opaque by design, you need to know a bit about the group you want to join first. Are there any DFOS public spaces that anyone would recommend? (Assuming they are open of course) 120
Scott Jenson @jenson.org · 22/07/2026oh, it's synthetic user testing. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I'm rather skeptical of that. I'm sure it can catch basic things but I've done *a lot* of user testing in my life and nearly all of the critical insights came from quirky offhand comments that broke open our misunderstandings. 010
