Oh it’s more than just thinking… … I’m doing London!

I guess you could say this is the start of me building up to a big deal marathon next year? 👀 👀 I’ve had a hard health week so this was difficult to drag myself around, but still outperformed where I should! #parkrun

Some days I just can Some days I just can't And I've just about been learning to adjust to that But what really hits me is the days where it feels like I can, and I start, then it turns out that I can't 💔

I’ve been feeling awful, I’ve been in so much pain, everything has been hard Yet SOMEHOW I just managed to set a parkrun PB! First time since radiosurgery knocked me back! ❤️❤️ #parkrun

Running for me has been a measure of what I can achieve _despite_ my disabilities. Today felt like the inverse 😔

In the rain this morning I completed the Altrincham 10k. You may remember me wanting to do this last year That was a tough 10k for me for where I’m at right now, it was my slowest so far, yet I’m still super happy that I completed it. Finish lines not finish times!

I actively avoid that particular stop at all costs because it’s the worst of the worst I’m sure there’ll be some people along soon to jump on and claim it’s my fault

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
But the current solution being rolled out is dumping on disabled people, that’s categorically not more acceptable
110
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Thank you for acknowledging that it’s a problem ❤️ I’ve been jumped on by a load of people who don’t seem to want to accept it!

If you start your reply with “that’s hilarious” you’re not setting a great tone for your reply and leaving yourself open to misinterpretation so I’m sorry if that’s been misinterpreted But ultimately if the issue with floating bus stops is behavioural then it is generally a flaw with all of them
110
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I’m pointing out the issue and you’re dismissing it because _you’re_ a perfect cyclist. By that logic, cars aren’t a problem because I was a good enough driver
110
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
For my use, going from the bus to the gate into the hospital grounds, the zebra is in the perfect location. But I think that’s more luck than design

Thank you for allowing us to cross, we just need that to be the norm, not the exception 😔
030
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
We design roads now to calm down bad drivers, we need to realistically think about the same approach here.
470
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
We’re skirting around the real problem here though. The design would work if the zebras were respected. Which they’re not, and the unfortunate reality is that it appears to be the majority, not the minority that go sailing through without any caution at all

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Next one down south but it’s pretty much the same

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
This is my own experience. Other people’s experiences may differ or be similar. Everyone has different problems. So please when replying be careful not to minimise mine

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Back in days gone by this was a 4 lane major road. So forgive me for being sceptical that we can do great things just by taking cars away
140
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
not a special stop, probably has more visibility than most, but biggest issue is getting across. Remember, I have sight + mobility issues. I’m now in my “generally wait for the green light to be sure” era when crossing roads You might see a gap in a line of bikes as they approach, I wouldn’t

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Oxford Road, Manchester Heavy flows of cycles in the lanes that are typically reluctant to give way. I regularly use the stop outside of the eye hospital if you want a specific example.

And while I’m getting on my ranting stool App developers, can you at least open your apps on devices with a larger font size so you can see how bad it is? I don’t want or need perfection, but you do have a habit of leaving some things that make it unusable like buttons of the screen Thx babes ❤️

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I mean, the bus stops I personally have most issues at are along a road closed to private cars so I’m not sure the space argument holds up! I used to think it was a great road until I got ill.
230
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Disabled people always seem to lose out, and everyone else wins when people talk about compromises, not just with floating bus stops
250
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
And I’m sure it never used to be as bad as it is now
120
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I’ve been trying to be quite tactful in how I speak about it because we’re not supposed to acknowledge that an increasing number of cyclists don’t stop, but it’s attitudes not advertising that are the bigger problem
370
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I wish and hope that we build a better more active travel focused world, but I cannot in good conscience align myself with that group. Nobody gets left behind

Disabled person: “Can this be less shit for us please?” Campaigners: “so you want to kill children?” Bloody hell!! I’m out. I’m sorry that I used to be on that side of things, I hope that I was never that toxic
4252
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I’ll happily interact with anyone who doesn’t stoop to the “so you want to kill kids” argument
210
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
And this is why the divide exists Any time anyone with a disability raises concerns, a small number of cycling campaigners suggest you’re advocating killing kids Sorry but you’ve lost all my respect in this discussion and I won’t interact with you further
110
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
That’s for people more qualified than me to design But I strongly suggest you don’t go down the “don’t let perfection get in the way of progress” angle when it comes to actively making things more difficult for people who already get screwed over Punch up not down

JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I want people to cycle more, I want a world where my city isn’t just clogged with cars But I don’t want that to come at the expense of anyone more vulnerable. Hot take: Amsterdam was awful on foot. If that’s our trajectory then I’m scared
060
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
And I’m sorry, but there is a LOT of poor cycling especially when it comes to interactions with peds, and it would be naive to deny that
160
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Inadequate design does not excuse poor cycling, in the same way inadequate design does not excuse poor driving. Whatever happened to that hierarchy based on vulnerability?
260
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Yes, it works better in Europe, but from the few days I spent in the Netherlands, I wouldn’t go as far as saying it works
120
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
This isn’t about space. Crossing a busy cycle lane with a stream of people who are reluctant to slow down/stop when you have sight and / or mobility problems (both for me) is a nightmare
140
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, I think it’s easy for you [as a wider group] to forget that there is a whole category of road users who are more vulnerable than you. I can’t safely cycle anymore (nor drive) so I have very few options
2150
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
We need more cycling infrastructure, absolutely But not at the expense of inclusive pedestrian infrastructure
2250
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
I just want to get on a fucking bus, not complete a crystal maze challenge
1280
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
The design puts you into uncontrolled conflict with some who may be reluctant to stop, and on some routes visibility can be difficult, with a flow that is… significant
3180
JenOnTheMove 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 @jenonthemove.com · 30/08/2026
Here’s a harsh reality… you don’t realise how shit floating bus stops are until you find yourself with a disability You know I’m very pro active travel infrastructure, but some things just make life very hard

After walking the last 3 parkruns, this was my first week back running one and my body fought back against me! Still got it done, and nice to have an overnight trip away! It’s a beautiful parkrun location! #parkrun

Today I realised that life is too short to let my various conditions win Therefore I’m on an impulsive adventure away from home. It’s not a big trip, and it’s not a filming trip, and I’ll pay the price for it, but it’s a trip. I’m taking control

We really don’t have enough seating in this world I don’t mean “just a bit too little”, I mean, absolutely nowhere near scratching the surface of being enough
