I have a rule that if I see a bright star and can't immediately recognise it then "it's Capella". I just saw a bright star out my window during Bat Watch. Went to check which it was and ... d'oh

The 100 Hours map already has lots of pins, but tonight we have big chunks of starry clear sky across the country - how many more will fly in? A great excuse to pop out and look up to enjoy a moment with the Universe ✨🤩 (You don't need to download anything, give your email, or exact location)
100 Hours logo, "Simple stargazing, add your mark 1-4 Oct. 294 challenges already pinned, add yours tonight. Pop out tonight to enjoy the starry sky and try out our beginners' challenges", https://100hours.online. There's a picture of the 100 hours maps with lots of pins across the UK and Ireland,. and a photo of a mobile phone with the app showing four challenges.

🏆Wellow in Somerset is our current leader with 19 completed challenges from multiple stargazers (I reckon it's the @bathastronomers.org.uk effect). Can anyone catch up?
Map screencapture showing lots of pins across England and Wales. The pin for Wellow shows "19" and has been clicked to open a dialogue box showing all the different challenge marker shapes of the individual stargazers, in the colours of the completed challenges.

✨How's the sky looking where you are? 👀 Are you in a clear zone - SE England, or up toward The Wash later? Or the West of Ireland, with patchy gaps over most of Ireland later? - 📢 This is your chance to look up for 100hours.online. Also NE Scotland again - how come you guys get so much clear sky?! ✨

One hour until sunset in Norwich - anyone over that way planning to step outside to put some early markers on our stargazing map? 100hours.online
Inspirational event image: "When did you last look up? Remember to enjoy the view" with the 100 Hours logo and url. The photo is of a guy sihouetted against an improbably starry sky, arms up. To be honest it'd be hard to do the challenges somewhere so dark - too many stars! - much easier if you're in suburbia with a bit of light pollution around you.

📢 CLEAR SKIES ALERT! 🤩 Much of the UK will enjoy starry skies tonight, so why not pop out and look up to try our 100hours.online stargazing challenges and add your markers to our map. No need to register, give exact location, or anything like that - just an excuse to enjoy the incredible view.

📢 TWO DAYS until the 100 Hours global stargazing event begins! ✨Thursday looks like the best evening to pop outside and look up to try our four beginners' stargazing challenges. Add your marker to our UK/Ireland map and see how many people are taking part in your region 100hours.online ✨
A poster including graphics from the app. There's 100 Hours logo with text "simple stargazing, add your mark 1-4 Oct" with an image showing part of the UK map, which has lots of numbered pins (numbers are how many challenges have been completed in each location), with one pin opened to see a cat-shaped marker inside (it's blue, which means the person did Challenge 1). We can see a second, cyan marker flying in to join it.

Looking for diversion from the wtaf-ness of the news? I have a stargazing challenge for you👇 Just completed it myself on Portobello Beach: got overly excited by the beauty of it all & accidentally accosted a group of French photo-taking tourists to tell them all about it "C'est vraiment Jupiter?"🤩 🔭

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic.
