If you are interested in the Big Stink, fatbergs or the super sewer reducing sewage entering the Thames by 86%, The Secret Life of Sewers starts at 18.30 live streamed on YouTube. For me it's Edwardian sewage caps (or lack of the ones that have dropped off, resulting in pollution of surface water)

What an unforgettable evening hearing the brilliant Antonio Forcione. Such intensity & artistry. The audience were privileged to be in a small venue where the connection was intense. It hardly seemed we breathed while we focused on one man producing such mesmerising sounds from one guitar.

We really need investment to replace the failing sewer caps that have protected surface waters from foul water for more than a century. In areas with older housing they are a major source of pollution. Most householders have no idea they are causing this.

National museums to remain #FreeforAll. Great news. I was very involved in the campaign to win this status under the 97 Labour Government. A very valuable and distinctive feature of the UK. I remember Neil McGregor telling me that directors of national museums in other countries envied this.

I love the opera but found the production very distracting from the drama. The direction was strangely distancing and out of step with the emotional depth and arc of the music. I think that the singers were put off by that.

Londoners do value our rivers and want to see them restored to health. There's a certain amount we can do as volunteers. But for pollution the data from citizen scientists must be valued & acted on. A strategic vision is needed to bring our actions together with real impact.
