We’re about to get smashed with some big winter weather. So I’ve spent most of the past two days getting the farm ready for the hit. The last task was adding some wind-breaks to the chicken cook so the girls are more cozy. We call the motif “random farm upcycled” as it’s mostly scraps and trash.

So, a giant winter storm is about to hit us. We will probably loose power for several days. Now taking recs for knitting books I can get on Libby before the storm so I can finally learn how to add/drop stitches, maybe some new stitches, and level up so I can one day knit a pair of socks.

The plan is to make this again but with a quilt I will make. Have planned some size adjustments so it fits better the second time around as well. I learned a lot in this process, namely princess seams and how to make bias binding. All and all I’m pleased w/my new house coat

In an effort to do more creative things with my time, aka be on my phone less, I have gotten back into sewing and have been taking a few online classes. Over the weekend I finished this quilt jacket from an old bed spread. I’ve now got a comfy warm house coat for my remote work life.

If you’re not calling your reps you need to. Over the last week when I say I’m calling about defunding 🧊 the staffers have gone from, to paraphrase, “that’s nice honey, now hush” to “tell me more about why you feel this way” and that’s giving me a lil hope right now in my purple yet red state.

Oh day 5 of 30 is turning out to be my favorite. Paint a bookshelf, fill it with books, plants, and knickknacks. I keep adding more things with every layer that dries!! In progress work from me and the kiddo bc I plan to linger on this one. It is bringing much needed joy.

We do cow peas (black eyed peas) as our shelf stable bean and probably dedicate 1-2 beds to them. We get around 5 pounds of beans. I grow them for eating yes, but also as part of my crop rotation schedule.

Yes. We grow all the beans. Green beans are lovely and easy to preserve via canning or freezing (after blanching) and is easy to do at a home-scale. Dried beans are more a field crop and to get enough for storage you need to plant a lot of them. And then shell a lot of them.

WHAT? That is so cool! I've had exactly one root canal and it was while I was living in Peru. I've been terrified to have another one because something went sideways and I wound up with a massive burn/wound in my mouth that took forever to heal.
