OOOOU have you seen Backrooms too?! We definitely gotta chat. I liked a loooot of things about it, but had some Big Gripes. 😖 I think you’ll like Resident Evil! 😄

Overall, 4/5 ⭐️s. Excellent spooktober viewing. (And a helluva palate cleanser after finishing Backrooms the other day, which was hella disappointing. 😕)

Also loved the constant shifts between conventional film shots and video-game-esque POV shots. It’s Resident Evil, ffs! It’s perfectly fine to be unserious.

Just saw Resident Evil and boy was it fun. I love the many genre constructions of zombie-ism, even the ones that are just “how weird and fucked up can we make our movie cannibals today?”

Black women in urban fantasy romance!! Deeply human characters with emotional wounds!! Resonant found family!! Older black female protagonist who doesn’t want biological children, but is a critical part of her nibling’s life (because raising children takes a VILLAGE).

I am trying to wrap my mind around the fact that, for the most part, the only books-related posts that get real traction on Bluesky involve the shittiest, most rage-inducing garbage and people. This isn't true for film or music. It feels like there's a real void here, and I hate it.

A.I. destroys fundamental human deep curiosity and takes away the (very good for you) discomfort of failing and problem solving. This is like those trees they tried to grow in a protective bubble--they grew fast at first but the roots were shallow and weak from lack of wind stress so they died.

The notion of zombies trace back to when African slaves were brutally disciplined and worked to death. It was rumored that some got rendered “soul lost,” so they would toil without rest or protest. Thus within Haitian culture, zombies were victims, robbed of independent will by cruel masters.
