Some of the paid ones were also found to be not much better. Wish I'd saved the article (finding it in a google search is probably an exercise in frustration now) but since ours (Proton) was one of the few not implicated, I just never gave it much more of a thought until now lol

Be careful with the free ones, there was a report recently about how a ton of the free VPNs are data harvesting scams essentially, and not really providing you much of any privacy.

IIRC the US averages more cases of the plague a year than Russia, and that's despite the plague being a naturally occurring thing there, seeing as it originated from the steppes.

When our friends and publishing crew came up from the US for a visit, we went and rented a house in Gros Morne overlooking the bay, and I ran a horror tabletop session set in 1920s Newfoundland! The weather was thick with fog that day too, perfect.

But as of yet I have had little luck breaking into the horror genre. We just lack the genre specific connections and knowhow to market. We've sold a fair amount, but nowhere near what we'd need to live off of.

In our ~15 years doing this, never had to work so hard for book sales. And it's not just us, hearing the same from everyone. And we've weathered a lot of shakeups. Important to understand AI "art" was pursued by fascists like Musk, because he explicitly resented artists even getting credit for work

Hah yeah. We got denied on our first attempt to buy a house, because despite our financials being excellent, I had zero debt. So the system had to punish me for being a bad consumer. Good consumers are in perpetual debt to buy more things!

Life is so grim for authors right now, even if you aren't technically banned you're at the mercy of arbitrary and unwritten guidelines. We're all self-censoring. Financially: Literally the majority of new releases on Amazon and other big stores are AI slop, according to the stores own assessments.

It would be really great if we could put an emphasis on supporting living authors being banned too. So much of the attention seems to go to deceased authors who can in no way benefit. While others face intense scrutiny and hardship TODAY.

The funny thing about that, was that originally the story was that nobody in North Korea was allowed to have the same haircut as the Kim's. Then they changed it to: actually everyone is forced to have the same few haircuts the Kim's approve.

With "You can leave but you need a visa or passport just like every other country" & it really highlights how we would never say we need permission to leave Canada.

Last night we watched "Together" (2025) and it really blew us away. Totally not what we expected. Some quality body horror in there, but the thematic twists were what really did it. Wouldn't wanna spoiler anything if you haven't already seen it. Must watch horror film.
