1/ If you've ever verified your identity on login.gov (IRS, Social Security, VA), here's something I found this week. The government's signed privacy report says login.gov doesn't keep the photo of your license or your face. The public code keeps both. 🧵 #privacy #logingov #govtech

I hate AI slop. I also think someone can use AI to make something worth reading. I wrote about that tension, including why "they hated cameras too" is a lousy answer to artists worried about getting paid. jeffkazzee.substack.com/p/does-using...

Does using AI make the work worth less?
AI can change what work costs, how we judge it, and what we expect from the person making it.

Vivary update! Most of this release went into making a name not appear. vivary check --help prints "usage: vivary check". The package doing the work never says its own name. Precious, right up until you count how many tools a newcomer thinks they're learning. It was five. pip install vivary

I made an arcade in a tool called Dyad where AI codes every game. 14 playable in the browser today, more coming, and there's an upload flow if you want to build one yourself. Genuinely impressed with what a free desktop app pulled off here. llmarcade.fun / dyad.sh

Dark factories are all the rage. Mine needed 7 image calls for 3 accepted results. Four failed. I saw none of it. Software is a graph, model capability changes from job to job, and proof earns every dark stretch. jeffkazzee.substack.com/p/turn-the-l...

Built a checker for my one writing rule yesterday. Found I'd never broken it, not once. Then pointed it at my READMEs and docs, where no rule applied. Failed immediately. Wasn't a discipline problem. My rule covered a small part of what I actually write. jeffkazzee.substack.com/p/my-writing...

My writing rule worked perfectly. That was a problem.

My GitHub graph is starting to snitch on me. While everybody else had hot girl summer. I had hot git summer. No beach pics. No yacht. No mysterious European vacation. It's just me, my laptop, too much coffee, and a GitHub contribution graph that finally started looking like it had a pulse.

Happy 250th! It might not feel like the normal 4'th, but there's something worth celebrating no matter how much you feel discouraged about the way things are. We have made progress the last 100 years, the government does not define what we are or who we are.

The new Vivary release is the one I wanted from the start: it works on projects you already have. tropo map reads any repo/vault into a map. create-vivary adopt makes it agent-native without touching your existing files. doctor --trend watches for drift. vivary.vercel.app

The reason I use AI tools: 1/3 Epilepsy since I was 18, after a brain infection wrecked the year I was supposed to start building a career. The normal path just wasn't there anymore. So I built my own, slowly, out of free resources and stubbornness.
