1/7 This is a very clever trick, and I thought I'd unpack it a little in case anyone's interested: The key is that EOR (exclusive OR, more commonly abbreviated XOR) is a versatile tool that can work as both a "difference detector" and a "bit flipper", depending on how you think about it.

You might be Gen-X, but are you "played with Lego people back when they were made of Lego bricks" Gen-X?
Photo of five little Lego people. They predate the "minifigs" that are more well-known these days. They consist of a head sitting atop a 2x2 brick, and this brick has flexible (and detachable) arms coming out of the sides. The rest of the bodies are various combinations of compatible Lego bricks, giving them a vaguely human shape. The plastic hair on their heads is detachable and interchangeable too, which is fun.

Fun fact: If you celebrated this today at 7AM Chicago time, you were actually an hour early! March 24th, 1984 would've still been under Standard Time, since the switch to Daylight Saving Time wasn't until April back then.
Still of the high school from the "The Breakfast Club", a movie that takes place on a single day of detention. There's a subtitle that shows that the date is Saturday, March 24, 1984. A heading further specifies that detention started at 7AM.

Cartoon of a robot with a human female. Human: "Robobert... do you think I'm pretty?".

Robot: "Babe, you are a one zero". (It is ambiguous as to whether he said the word "ten" or "one zero").

Human: "Wait... in base ten or binary? Which one, Robobert?"

The last panel shows the robot sweating and short circuiting.

Wow...
Google AI Overview that reads: The saying "don't drain the bathtub after midnight" is a superstition, and while there's no scientific basis for it, it's rooted in the idea of avoiding negative consequences or bad luck after that time. Some explanations point to the idea that midnight marks the transition to a new day, and draining the tub afterward could symbolically drain away good luck or energy for the day ahead. Others see it as a way to avoid disturbing the spirits that may be active at night. Ultimately, it's a belief passed down through culture and tradition, and its meaning is more about the symbolic act of avoiding negative energy than any literal effect.

Okay, this is both hilarious and a good example of why you should always treat AI output with a healthy does of skepticism...
Screenshot of AI output. It reads: The saying "two farts are worth more than a sack of potatoes" is a hyperbolic, humorous way of saying that something seemingly worthless or insignificant can be more valuable or valuable than a tangible possession, like a sack of potatoes. It highlights the subjective nature of value and the potential for things to be worth more than their material worth.

Remember 22 years ago, when they renamed french fries "Freedom Fries" in the US House cafeterias? And then a few years later, they realized how embarrassingly stupid that was and quietly changed it back? I've been thinking about that lately for some reason... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom...

I've been an a-ha fan for 40 years and only just now noticed that there's a dog on the cover.
The cover of a-ha's 1985 album "Hunting High and Low". A red box has been drawn in the lower-left corner to highlight that, among the people in the cover's black-and-white photo, there's a dog just laying on its side on a bench, chilling.

If you played an instrument back in high school and stopped: we are in a golden age of decent cheap instruments. The guitars are better, the amps are better. The pedals are cheaper, the wind instruments are actually instruments and not just shaped like them, etc. Jump back into it.

It's a mostly plain screen, with few flat, blocky objects in a handful of colors, barely recognizable as representing people and items.Screenshot of the new video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle", showing Indiana Jones manipulating some mechanical device in an ancient temple. The look is very nearly photo-realistic, with burning flames causing accurate light and shadow in a fully three-dimensional environment.

Wife's out of town this weekend, so it's time to get rowdy!!! (By which I mean, finally getting around to refurbing some speakers I bought at a yard sale last year.)
Two medium-sized stereo speaker cabinets, partially dismantled. The speaker from one has been removed and is next to the cabinet. Parts of it are deteriorated. A screwdriver, a tube of glue, and two replacement foam gaskets are nearby. Two bare speakers in their metal frames. The frames have been mostly cleaned of glue and other residue.
