Didn't realise when we set the publication date for the book as today that it was on this day that Jack Good – the godfather of pop music on TV – died in 2017. I was lucky to spend some time with him a couple of years earlier.

Steep uphill walk to the Blake Tavern but worth it. Troubling news is that owner has sold to pub company and sign has now appeared on wall looking for tenants. Barman worries that new tenant may not have same commitment to good ale. Fine pint of Neepsend Blonde. Victorian features are unchanged.

55 years ago today, The Partridge Family was first seen on BBC1. The show that introduced David Cassidy. The BBC dropped it after only half a series. Bad timing. Just a few months later Cassidy was all over the charts as a solo performer. ITV – understandably – picked it up instead.
