There was no 'Woke 1.' Everyone saying there was is falling for a conservative framing of the past that justifies their turn to authoritarianism and fascism.

Removed entire character from novel draft, scrubbed every reference, every trace. Offically gone. Changed everything. Kinda wish I could do this is real life now.

new thing I've been doing is when someone I know says "I keep meaning to pick up your book" I say, "Actually, you're in it," which isn't always true but so far always makes them immediately want to see what I wrote about them.

So re: yesterday's literary men discourse: People recommended Sally Rooney to me were mostly men, oddly enough. And the people who recommend Scott Sanderson? All women.

My book, IT ALL FELT IMPOSSIBLE, in which I wrote a short essay for each year of my life, is officially out today (paperback & ebook). I think it's the best writing I've ever done, the most I've ever sounded like myself on the page. Full details, reviews, etc: rosemetalpress.com/books/it-all...

TEXT: SUBMIT NOW REMINDER

IMAGE: There are three Sad Jacks present standing on blue circles. For two of them, you can only see their backends as they are facing away on the top and right edges of the image. The other Sad Jack is upright but you can only see his top half because he's on the bottom edge. There are three line-designs, one being a blue curly line that looks pixelated. The other is a purple loopy line that looks like it's made of razor wire. And the last one is an orange kind of black hole design that also looks pixelated.

A fine, thoughtful review. It's interesting to see how many writers with skin in the game recognise this as a great novel, and many readers too. Some critics have got it all very wrong.

Here's a hot take about Guillermo's book. He could've simply published Tale of Three Voyages as a standalone novel and critics would've praised him for picking up where he left off with Lake of Urine. But where's the fun in that?
