To deduce meaning of a new word from text you need to be able to read 95 per cent of the other words. So weaker readers need audiobooks and being read to in order to grow their vocabulary.

Did you see the news today that 42 per cent of students in independent schools have extra time in exams? 27 per cent in state schools. Can anyone think of a solution that doesn't involve more paperwork, more diagnosis/labelling?

This is a good article. What strikes me though is the need to make much of the scaffolding it describes universal... Built into everyday teaching. We can no longer draw lines between those with SEND and those who are 'normal'. Classes are diverse...children are diverse.
