That’s a very old one. My dad told me one that one about his company. I guess it was a tech company since their product was individual transistors.

My daughter and I almost talked ourselves out of going to the zone of totality in 2024. My son then referred us to this cartoon and said he’d go without us. What would we do without cartoons?

I think I’m a bit younger than you, but yeah April 2024 may have been it for me. The drive south on I91 from northern Vermont was insane. Six hours to go 100 miles. Worth it once but plan better next time.

Is the third photo the inspiration for Stevie Nicks’ song “Silver Springs?” Maybe! From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_...
From the Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_Springs_(song):

I wrote "Silver Springs" about Lindsey. And we were in Maryland somewhere driving under a freeway sign that said Silver Springs [sic]. And I loved the name… Silver Springs sounded like a pretty fabulous place to me. And 'You could be my silver springs' – that's just a whole symbolic thing of what you could have been to me.

I used to walk through downtown Boston every day. Would not recommend jaywalking. Otoh, when they added count down timers I would say to myself: 10 seconds? Sure I can cross four lanes of traffic.

Update: the tree has leaves now.
A large, almost triangular tree full of leaves. It’s planted on a lawn and a few other trees are near it. The lawn and trees are bright green. A blue sky with a few clouds in it.

I used to vote in someone’s garage. Just a ranch style house with a double garage and the door up. This was California so it was never that cold even in November.

Spotted several small lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) in the Bass River on Cape Cod. This is about 3 miles (5km) from the mouth of the river on the south side of the cape. It must be fairly salty for these to be here.

Sometimes you make a new comic, and sometimes you redraw an old one because you lost the original high res file 😅
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, two people are standing in the forest, wearing backpacks. The red-haired person says "I've never hiked with a naturalist before! I'm excited. I hope I brought enough water." The brown-haired person says "I'm sure you did. Let's go!"

In panel 2, the brown-haired person points at various nature features. "Look, a red eft! It's the teenaged form of the Eastern Newt. Ooh, wintergreen! Wanna smell it? I hear a Chestnut-sided Warbler. Glacial till. Rubble of the last ice age!"

In panel 3, the naturalist points to more nature items. "This forest seems early successional. Aw, a leafcutter bee with a piece of leaf! Wow, deer poor! Wow, fungi growing out of the deer poop!!" The red-haired person says "Okay, but..."

In panel 4, the red-haired person continues, "It's been an hour and we've walked three feet." The brown-haired person exclaims, looking excited, "Three amazing feet!"

Few are brave enough to acknowledge the truth.
A drawing titled "Wild Rabbit vs. Easter Bunny". On the left, there's a wild cottontail bunny sitting down looking alert. On the right, there's a cartoonish Easter Bunny wearing a little polkadot vest and standing next to some colorful eggs. The wild bunny is labeled "Eyes on the sides of the head to watch for predators." and the Easter Bunny "Forward-facing eyes to hunt for meat." Wild bunny: "Active all year." Easter Bunny: "Only active in Spring - otherwise in diapause as a cyst?" Wild bunny: "Walks on four legs." Easter Bunny: "Unusual bipedal stance." Wild bunny: "Plain brown and white fur." Easter Bunny: "Distinctive vest-like markings." Wild bunny: "Gives birth to live young." Easter Bunny: "Steals and redistributes eggs; parasitic reproductive strategy?"

Photos of the #eclipse from my DSLR. These were take behind a beach on the northeast coast of the US. It's nearly dawn and when the moon was fully eclipsed I couldn't see it all. No blood moon. Went to the before the moon set but it was not possible to see it at all. Also it was 15F/-10C at 6:00am.
The nearly eclipsed moon. It's near dawn so the eclipsed part is mostly not visible with only the bit near the illuminated part slightly reddish. The nearly eclipsed moon over a scrubland behind a beach. It's nearly dawn and the moon is almost completely invisible. The nearly eclipsed moon over a coastal scrubland in winter. You can see a small in the foreground and bits of snow. It's near dawn and the sky is a light blue.

Phone photo of the #eclipse. Taken from a beach parking lot. This is at 5:40am EST about 24 minutes before totality and 33 minutes before moonset.
Partially eclipsed moon seen over a scrubland behind a beach. It is almost dawn so the eclipsed part of the moon is dark instead of reddish.

I’m seeing a prediction of 9% cloud cover in my location. But totality starts at 6:04 am and moonset is at 6:13. I’m going to try to get to a beach and see it set over the water.

Just to follow up on this: I reread the application and it does allow for you to submit info for a great grandparent on a additional sheet. And I did a little research and found I have exactly one great grandparent born in Canada.

Hmm, is that so? I’m just going by the form, no idea how it’s working in practice. I do have one gt grand parent’s us naturalization doc where he renounced allegiance to the king. Would that have disqualified him? I think that was after my grandfather was born so I may have an in there.

Before 1947 there were no Canadian citizens, only British subjects domiciled in Canada. I have 3 great grandparents born in Canada but they all died before 1947, so I’m out of luck. Also I notice the time to process a citizenship certificate has gone from 9 months to 13 since November.

Jeff R. @jdrem.bsky.social · 11/02/2026
I don’t think so. I’ve got the forms (the spouse has always qualified but now are kids are) and the way I read is: you have to be descended from someone born in Canada after 1947 or who became a Canadian citizen by the citizenship act in 1947.

I spotted this one in Dublin. Cipher of Edward VII but with a newer paint job.
A classic Royal mail cylindrical mailbox on a city sidewalk. You can see the next dispatch is at 5:30 pm. It had a Royal cipher of Edward VII. It’s painted green since it’s in Dublin.

View of the Quabbin reservoir from the Pelham lookout on US 202.
View of a mixed forest with autumn colors. In the foreground is a mowed field and then a stand of trees with half in shade and the other sunlit. Above them, you can see a sliver of blue water, a branch of the Quabbin reservoir. Behind that are more hills and trees. Above there are white puffy clouds in a blue sky.

Always something going on in the fridge.
The inside of a standard refrigerator. In the center are four plastic storage bins stacked on each other. On the bottom is cut up pineapple, then a largish one with spring mix salad stuff, then a smaller one with baby arugula. On top is an even smaller one with Luna moth cocoons.
