Can't believe they are struggling for sales to make this happen. This year's calendar was a joy. I mean, it's @christhebarker.bsky.social (Sgt Pepper montages) and @quantick.bsky.social (Veep, TV Burp), for goodness' sake.

#Art To Conway Hall for an Andrew Graham Dixon lecture on Vermeer, which totally changed the way I think about the artist. His research identified that the vast bulk of Vermeer’s paintings were commissioned by a Remonstrant family in Delft, repositions him as a religious painter.

#History To St Martin in the Fields for a lecture by @drjaninaramirez.bsky.social on St Hilda of Whitby. Interesting and illuminating. Janina’s entrants deep knowledge are clear.

To the British Museum to see the #BayeuxTapestry. Well worth seeing, but do allow lots of time. Our ticket was for 1:30 and we queued for 1 hr 40 minutes before we actually got to the tapestry itself (which is stunning). 1/2

There are now 11 poetry 'Rhyme Time' videos up on our YouTube Channel. They are meant for under-fives so that you can learn them together. Learning short poems is a great way for young children to make the bridge between oral and written. www.youtube.com/c/MichaelRos...

Looking at the pictures of the ludicrously monickered “Danny Tommo” and his cohorts in black shorts, I was reminded of PG Wodehouse’s Roderick Spode.

Just been to St Martin in the Fields for a very interesting talk by @sayeedawarsi.bsky.social Really didn’t expect to hear a Tory peer praising Billy Bragg (although his book ‘The Progressive Patriot’ is excellent).

As @bbcradio4 is having a “Norman Day” I recalled this anecdote from Richard Corbett who was a Labour MEP. . “La sagesse normande One classic story is about a debate when a member from Normandy came up with just the right compromise at the right time.

To the Garden Cinema to see ‘The Summer Book’. Beautifully filmed, gorgeous music (reminded me of Erland Cooper), fantastic soundscapes and a wonderful performance by Glenn Close. An elegiac piece. Not for action movie fans, but recommended. A real contrast with the last film we saw - The Odyssey.

My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Image: In a childrens library, a small boy contentedly reads a small picture book, while an angry-looking small girl storms past, carrying a very heavy book.

Caption:
Unfortunately for Charlotte, the adjudication committee decides that, for the purposes of the under-nines summer reading challenge, the six volumes of proust's 'in search of lost time' is considered to be one single narrative, whereas each of Roger hargreaves' mister men' books is a distinct work, thereby awarding the library's 'top reader' sticker to her brother Toby.

FIFA is right, there has been a ‘concerted effort to undermine’ Infantino. For good reason and entirely because of his own corrupt, unethical, and unprofessional behaviour. Not really sure how the accusation of a campaign against him counts as a criticism or defence.

#Reformarenotyourfriends Cheering news today. In our local council by election, the Greens (who we voted for) won by 18% over Reform, who put a huge effort in (at least 5 leaflets and door to door canvassing). Maybe the Farage peak is over - fingers crossed.
