Sorry, what? Most anti-AI leftists I know aren’t touching it with a ten-foot pool. Who is forming their opinions on AI because it wasn’t woke enough in a factually incorrect way? The quoted post has research backing it up, this sounds like we’re just slipping in some left bashing based on vibes

“What is does for them” is what I said that was conveniently left out of the clapback. I’ve seen excel used to run entire low code platforms for businesses, function as a bad database, create presentations, and even run the odd video game. So no, in the real world there’s not really a consensus

JD @jd503.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Replace Excel with “spreadsheets” then. Not that it matters when Excel is most of the market, but pedantry doesn’t break the analogy.

JD @jd503.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
What are you even asking then? My point is that people and orgs use Excel in wildly different ways, just like LLMs.
170
JD @jd503.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Well sure, you wouldn’t get a consensus asking people what Excel does for them either because people use it for different things

So what’d everyone move to? I’m trying to avoid bringing big cloud work home with me, but these PaaS joints seem to caught up with their own Conway’d web consoles and convoluted consumption costs so what’s a boy to do

Thanks for the reminder, just killed my droplet. They probably could’ve collected another 5-6 months of ADHD tax from me before I finally started the project it was intended for.

Our society is built on a mountain of outsourced and exploited skills that we’ve “surrendered” Younger me fully believed that most people had butchered at least one animal by adulthood, where’s my MIT preprint?

this is actually why i pulled the ejection handle on the ant ecosystem ~when opus 5 dropped. i’ve only recently had the patience to go back and lobotomize all the insane things that got written into markdown files and memories that were getting loaded into every context window

It’s less about locking yourself into features than letting the features lock you in to the model/vendor

JD @jd503.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Use OpenAI, hunt for other subs like Opencode Go, or be really cool and start learning how to optimize for smaller models It’s not ideal that we’re so detached from the cost of heating those GPUs thanks to subsidies, but nobody’s ready for that conversation (myself included)

JD @jd503.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
RE: claude code, yeah your harness choice matters a ton. Especially one as bloated as CC. Even if you’re eschewing all of the features, configs, and memory, you’re not really starting any project from scratch
370
JD @jd503.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I wrote that poorly, I meant providers that allow you to use your subscriptions easily in your own harnesses and tools. OpenAI allows you to do this, Anthropic might ban your account if you try.

JD @jd503.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Using inference providers that allow you to use them as dumb pipes is also an option, such as OpenAI As long as you don’t let them rope you in with walled garden features or APIs

Have you considered that you were actually doing an Orwellian rewrite of history to satisfy Silicon Valley’s radical leftist culture? I was just reminded that he invoked Angela Davis to castigate Google over this

Very lazy prompting or cheap models? I feel the same, but most of my agents are interacting with text I’ve already written or influenced so it’s hard to know what people get out of the box.
