“Quaver, Hook & Worm” was accepted by jury to the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour 100th Annual Open Water Exhibition. I’m pleased 🤗 because people don’t believe me when I say that this is what watercolour can do. And here we are. 18 x 24” watercolour on clay (Aquabord). Available.

Humbled to have my watercolour painting, “Beside Himself” selected as a Top Ten Finalist in this juried art exhibition of 105 amazing artworks. Thanks to the esteemed judges Celine Cardineau, Fabian Jean and Carlos Salamanca for their thoughtful consideration, and to Artists in Montreal. So happy!

Oh cripes! Sometimes a hotspot (or even a single flea bite) can go from being a localized issue to a systemic one. It’s called pyoderma, usually because of a weakened immune system. Two of my dogs got it. Sores, itchy, crusting, hair loss. Don’t know if this is it but hope he can be comfortable.

Oh no not the dreaded hotspots! My newfs used to get those. The best thing that I ever found for them was green clay powder, it dried them right out. I’m glad he’s feeling a little bit better.

This is a rough sketch of my next painting. The concept is fairly straightforward: a young man is pictured from the waist up and he has a big hole in his torso. We can see right through the hole to the other side. Inside the hole are some butterflies flying around. One of his arms is held up in a gesture. His face is contemplative and he is blowing out of breath, and along this breath is a butterfly. It is as if he is blowing out the butterfly from inside of him. Since this is just a sketch to determine the darks and lights, the drawing is very rough. But I will be rendering it in watercolour as a painting.

This is a work in progress image of my watercolour painting. It shows a young woman head and shoulders with two birds, one is on her shoulder, and the other is inflate near the other side of her head. She has a giggling expression on her face, the bird that is in flight is pulling a worm out of her ear, whilst the other bird perched on her shoulder is singing a musical note into her other ear. Because this is a working progress, it is not finished. The background is green, and the face only has a few layers of skin tones painted in.

This is my watercolour painting, Momentum. A Black woman rests comfortably on a sofa, suspended in outer space. She is communing with a Monarch butterfly on her knee and contemplating the transatlantic weather systems on Earth. The planet is supported like a jewel by the stylized palisades of her crown, in gold leaf. She is wearing a white satin dress, and the sofa is decked out in sumptuous fabrics and cushions. It is richly upholstered and embroidered with stars, a nod to the sitters celestial status.

This is a close-up of my watercolour painting, Momentum. We can see a Black woman’s hand resting on her knee. She is wearing a flowing white satin dress and the folds of fabric go over her legs. Resting on her knee is a monarch butterfly. The back of the sofa has carved wood in a floral motif and richly embroidered turquoise and gold upholstery.

There is beautiful, brocade fabric with fringe draped over the edge of the sofa. The sofa has carved wood with deep turquoise and gold upholstery. She is wearing a white satin gown in contrast with the deep brown of her skin.

This is a 3 x 4“ colour study from my work sketchbook. In this watercolour image, which is very loosely painted, there is a young woman seen head and shoulders. On the left shoulder is perched a blue bird, which is singing into her ear. Flying in the air next to her other ear is another bluebird. This bird is pulling a pink worm out of the woman’s ear. The woman is giggling because it tickles! In this colour study, the background is painted in green tones.
