Curse of the Systems Engineer: Watching everyone run the world as isolated systems that clash and fight each other instead of meshing smoothly, & being unable to change anything b/c they're all locked down and have the inertia of multinational giants with decade long contracts pinning them in place.

AI adoption can't be anything other than wildly inflated by aggressive misrepresentations and dark patterns injecting it into your life, like how my browser just asked to "shake to summarize", a feature that can only exist because someone thought human motion was an untapped boost for their numbers.

You jolt awake, eyes swimming with visions. You reassure yourself there were never such things as LLMs, Skibidis, or Presidents. Ohio existed once, until just after Harambe's heroic death started the 5-way world war (5WWW). Your E-machete moans as you pull it out to begin scavenging for clean water.

Man, it feels good to get back into Heroes of the Storm as a friend group. I missed this. Can you believe they decided to execute the dev team out of nowhere 8 years ago at the height of the game's popularity? Cancelled all the tournaments too. I really hope it has fans to come back to.

Having to manually dismiss the Gemini ad banner at the top of Every Single Doc and Spreadsheet I open all in a row is really pushing me over the effort threshold required to go search for or even implement a FOSS alternative.

Travel internationally, stay over a month, push past the culture shock, and truly discover how differently people around the world live. It's one of the greatest experiences in the world, and one that everyone should have. Become a citizen of Earth. Then we can talk about borders and immigration.

I get what Jensen's trying to say here, but one of the skills he seems to have traded away is understanding how we build skills. You can't go straight from counting 100 to designing PCBs. Every advanced skill is underpinned by math and/or reading, and AI is slashing the intelligence of a generation.

Being a billionaire must be insane. You can buy new teeth, new skin. All your chairs cost 20,000 dollars and weigh 2,000 pounds. Your life is just a series of your own preferences. In terms of cognitive impairment it's probably like being kicked in the head by a horse every day

Hey, @aaron.bsky.team, it's clear that vibe coding your platform regularly causes serous issues & unplanned outages that cost more than the devs you fired, and is already itself charging out the nose. So with no other benefits left… Was it worth the good graces of the Rationalist AI Sex Cultists?

It's not novel, but the one time I reliably feel most 'awake' and problem-solving capable is on a daily walk around the block. It's just a shame that there's so many days where I can't break through the mental fog & hostile city planning keeping me from actually getting up and going on those walks.

Democrats like Talarico need to understand that the voters they're reaching for are already committed Republicans, and throwing trans people under the bus to appeal to them only demonstrates a total lack of both Principles and Loyalty (the things that matter most to the Left and Right respectively)

Normally I'd comment on how inevitable it is for two competing egos to fly too close to the sun, but in this case it's literally just one guy's ego thrashing in vain against his own unfathomable force of cringe that's steering us right up to the cliff's edge here.

Crazy how we only had 3000 satellites in orbit just 6 years ago and now we've quadrupled that mostly through Elon's complete disregard for the dangers of Kessler Syndrome. And now, 30 seconds is all it takes for an irreversible cascade of collisions to permanently lock space away from us forever.

I recently went back to basics in terms of comp sci projects with a game that guides you through building a computer starting from logic gates. My dad's been at the heart of this stuff since the 70s, and the joy on his face when we dug into assembler and opcodes together is now a core memory for me.

Every year these don't happen is another year stolen from all our lives, another friend lost to medical neglect, another child we can't afford to bring into the world. None of this damage can be undone, but we could at least break their chains holding us back from trying to stop the bleeding.

The AI bubble needs to pop, housing as investment (especially corporate) needs to end, the gerontocracy needs to die off, the private insurance industry needs to be smashed and dismantled, and the nazis' culture war needs to be lost so hard that their ideas become laughably fringe again.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

When right wingers keep calling all moderate leftists extremists, and the left listens and adjusts rightward for 50 years, this is what you get Democrats are so afraid of being called the radical left, something which will *never* stop, that they're now literally courting border wall voters In IOWA

30 years I watched the GOP gleefully starve, slash, and tear apart every service that helps people so they can give the money to billionaires, while Dems have said little and done less. Trump set us back more decades than I've been alive. If Dems refuse to match that energy, we remain in freefall.

Since it's apparently the topic of the hour, yes I do want the next Dem POTUS to be at least as effective as FDR and in less time, because that's EXACTLY what Trump did with Project 2025. Have we so forgotten what it means to have standards? And to hold our leaders to them?

Your great grandparents held no such notion, even in popular fiction, that werewolves only transform under the full moon. They did, however, walk past a dozen signs saying "Colored" or "Whites only" on their way to interview Civil War veterans for their history class essays.

The end of WWII was clearly an absolute event if we're still misattributing beliefs to centuries old traditions, when in reality so much of our culture that's "always been that way" was actually just what Boomers grew up with. "Generations of my family have-" Just 2 of them. It's been 2 generations.
