final day of Oktoberfest. grabbed a couple beers, a braut + listened to a German band. great afternoon

hiked up Mayflower Gulch this morning. started off cold at 34F + frost on the ground but warmed up at the top. Elevation gain was 727 ft from 10,975 - 11,653 ft. the old cabins were pretty neat.

Several abandoned cabins are at the site of an old mining camp.

we drove past the leadville B & B where we stayed in '96. fun weekend then full of snowmobiling, horse-drawn sleigh rides and dinner in a yurt at 10,600 ft in the snow.

drove down to Buena Vista for lunch then stopped in Leadville for coffee on the way back. once back in Breck we walked down to Oktoberfest + had dinner. fun day w/ my girlfriend. don't tell my wife.

also? Oktoberfest started today in breck + it has snowed up on peaks 8 + 9 with heavy rain downtown. we walked downtown around 11:30AM + it started raining then. bummer for everyone who worked so hard to get things prepped. event runs thru SUN so hoping the weather cooperates a bit.

early start. hopping down to DEN to get an oil change + tire rotation (brake check too) as it's twice as expensive up here. we'll be dumping the car in six months so this will be the last maintenance round. wild to think abt going car-less in EU but it's possible because the trains are amazing.
