Why do so many people act like only the Democrats have agency? If they do something wrong, they (rightfully) get blamed. But if the GOP does something wrong, it's somehow still Democrats fault for not trying hard enough to stop them. And people do this across the political spectrum.

I just want each team to hit a ball off the other's roof and have to deal with the intricacies of their ground rules.

This just reminds me that I never want to sit in the front couple rows at a baseball game. There's no way I'd be able to stop myself from reaching into the field of play to catch a fly ball.

It's kinda like watching the old disk defragmenter program in early Windows systems.

Too many people were abusing the old, very generous, DAS policy. People were advertising Disney "tours" with essentially free genie+, using their DAS pass as a profit opportunity. It's unsurprising that they cracked down. For every inch they gave, assholes took a mile.

They could also be doing balance-transfer tricks to bring the interest rate down. I know that's what I did when I've found myself in a bad spot in the past.

I suspect most are still saving for retirement, though, and could fall back on that if they lost their income. But it really goes to show that income and financial understanding are not perfectly correlated.

As terrible as Vilma was as an announcer, he was on that torn Achilles immediately. Idk if he had someone in his ear or he just knows injuries that well, but he was very informative in that one specific instance during the Packaneers game yesterday.

Ernest Scared Stupid. I watched half of the movie and didn't finish it while my sister was babysitting me. I had trouble sleeping for days. Finished it the next time my sister babysat me and was completely fine thereafter. Closure is important, I guess.

It's flexible. It works as both "I don't care what you do" and "I really care what you do," depending on your tone.

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

People and news agencies only have so much attention budget for potential existential crises. And right now AI is eating up the majority of that budget.

The problem with these jokes is that customers only hear them once every couple of days. So even though you know they're bad, they aren't *that* annoying. Cashiers, on the other hand, hear them once every couple of customers.

"This is your brain on drugs" had a much, much higher peak, but I hardly hear it anymore. "I learned it by watching you" almost disappeared from the zeitgeist for a while, but came back hard and is probably more well known today.

There are lots of constitutional amendments that people want, but eliminating the or reworking the pardon power is facially non-partisan, would garner broad electoral support, and would greatly aid in reducing government corruption.

Is anyone making supply-side decisions based on current prices, though? They aren't going to slow down oil production because diesel sells for $5/gallon instead of $6. It's a dumb policy, but because of the current limits on int'l supply, I doubt you'd see any notable shift in gasoline prices.

The problem is that it assumes that international order is not in the best interest of the country. That may be correct in the short run, but I doubt that it's true in the long run.

They aren't doing it because they want to. They are making shit up for search engine optimization. They realized that search engines don't like recipes because they are too short. If they add pages of text before the recipe, however, the search engine treats it more like any other page.

A Muppet crime procedural about the murder of the Philly Phanatic, in which Gritty, Swoop, and Franklin the Dog are the primary suspects? I can just see all the sports cameos. Relatedly.... Franklin the Dog? In a city with two of the most iconic mascots ever, the 76ers went with Franklin the Dog?

If the Packers protect a little better, they win both games and it's not even close. The offensive line is a huge albatross on the team right now, even worse than last year.

The problem is that fruit is both a botanical and culinary term, and the meanings are similar, but not exact matches. So people feel very smart by conflating the two. In reality, pumpkins are both botanical fruits and culinary vegetables.

He's inauthentic. He's a Midwestern Ted Cruise. You get the feeling that he'll say or do anything to benefit himself, but he pretends to be a good person. At least Trump doesn't pretend.

You can see exactly how it happened. They have a predator tour, which makes sense. Those are the coolest animals in most zoos. Then they apply the ticket categories that they probably use for every other tour and experience without giving it a second thought...

The AI developers are not worried about the effects of rushing forward with AI. As long as they are rushing forward, regulators should be rushing to keep up.
