Check out the cover I made for Sword. This monthly story project hasn't just been helping me with my writing, I've been experimenting with different art tools. This one uses markers, pens, gel pens, coloured pencils, and watercoloured pencils. #art #handdrawn #swordtember #scifiart #sword
The Cover of 'The Ethical Sword' by Jayde Holmes. A hand-drawn picture of a double-edged sword with en elaborate handle covered in red crystals. There is a skull emblem near the top of the handguard. There is also a speaker on the pommel. Red veins run up the blade.
In the background is the planet Pluto done in watercolour pencils. The title and author's name are written in glowing red letters above and below the planet.

Feels like I'm posting more pretty bird pictures than story updates these days. Saw a flock of #cockatoo the other day. Fun watching them graze and scream at each other. #australianwildlife #birds #australianbirds #parrots

It's cold enough in the mornings that I get frost on my car, but by afternoon the tadpoles in the backyard are happily swimming around. They're growing so well. #tadpole #frog #nature #backyard #australianwildlife

#BookBingo Update! Read Pope Leo's 'Magnifica Humanitas' as my 'Non-Fiction' book. Weird choice for me, but informative and thought-provoking despite the rumors surrounding it (www.snopes.com/news/2026/06...) It felt like human-written work, and I recommend it to anyone concerned about AI usage.

One thing I love about driving in Australia is seeing so much art on silos and water tanks. Saw this one close to home at Wangi Wangi, in the Hunter Region #australia #art #siloart #watertankart #owl #nswhunterregion #nsw
A giant water tank behind a metal fence. A mural of an owl in a tree with a hollow has been painted into the water tank. Behind the owl a forest of trees with their leaves shed and a full moon have also been painted. At the edge of the mural the logo for 'Hunter Water' has been painted, as well as a smaller 'love Water' logo. Trees and a telecommunication tower can be seen in the background behind the water tank.

New #BookBingo update! I decided to get acquainted with Agatha Christie's Poirot in 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' for my '1920s' tile. This murder mystery is 100 years old and its still awesome, and surprising. A classic for good reason. #Mystery #Poirot #ReadingChallenge

New #bookbingo update and woot! We have our first Bingo. Finally read 'Sand' by Hugh Howey for the 'Post-Apocalypitc' tile. It was... okay. Not my favourite from him, but not bad. Interesting worldbuilding ideas, intense end, but tries to juggle too much. Now to re-read Beacon23 #reading #books

The cover for my newest monthly story, 'Judgement', is finished. Finally happy with it after multiple attempts. You can read the story here: jaydeholmes.com/short-storie... #art #writing #sciencefiction #robots
The cover of 'Judgement'. Drawn with coloured pencil, and watercolour pencils. A robot in a purple robe walks past a pool. its reflection is visible in the water. There are two sculptures in the pool; a grey monolith with a hole at the top at the edge of the page, and a thin red rob bent like a lightning bolt.

The Sri Lanka sketchbook isn't the only one I took. The UNESCO book has all the World Heritage Sites I visit. I added the five World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka that I visited; Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, and Galle Old Town. #SriLanka #art #travelart #travel #mini #UNESCO

#BookBingo update! I've read 20 flash fiction stories so far this year. Most were from @smallwondersmag.com. Their Feb issue was great. Also read stories from @dreamtheorymedia.bsky.social and @crypticfrogpub.bsky.social and I found old stories by Isaac Asimov & Gene Wolfe siting on my bookshelf.

I've been playing a ton of #Pokopia lately and have been having the time of my life being a helpful #Ditto. It reminded me of this Ditto as #Runerigus that I drew ages ago. #art #pokemon #fanart #DittoTransformed
A picture of the Pokémon Runerigus (a clay slab with a serpent drawing on it possessed by a ghostly black body that has broken bits of the slab off to use as limbs and a face). It's menacing single purple eye is gone, and the usually intimidating fanged head of the serpent painting has been replaced by a sloppier looking version with the typical Ditto Face of simple smiling mouth and two little dots for eyes.

I drew 3 of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of #SriLanka that I visited in my tiny #UNESCO sketchbook. They are: 1. Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple 2. Ancient City of Polonnaruwa 3. Ancient City of Sigiriya These sites are so unbelievably ancient, and it was awesome exploring them. #art #travel
A tiny book being held open by white fingers. It is open to a page with a coloured drawing of Buddha statues beneath a ceiling mural. There are four statues, drawn in pen and coloured with markers. They are gold, with three wearing white robes and one wearing a red robe. The one in the red robe is standing in an elaborate arch. They are all holding up their right hands. Above them is a mural, made with coloured pencils, depicting a sitting Buddha, with one hand in his lap and another hand, painted red, held up. The background of the mural is mostly red, white, gold, black and blue. Pencils can be seen behind the book.A tiny book being held open by white fingers. It is open to a page with a coloured drawing of a round ruined building made of stone and red bricks. A stone staircase with leads up to a gap in the wall framed by columns, where a Buddha statue can be seen inside, siting cross-legged before an alter with white objects on it. The ruin of a stupa is behind the Buddha. At the foot of the staircase are stone slabs with human figures carved into them, and three pairs of shoes. A white thumb opens a tiny book to a page with a coloured pencil drawing. The drawing is of the Sigiriya Lion Gate. A bunch of tiny people and dogs are gathered before a cliff face, where the ruins of and entrance that now consists of a stone staircase between two massive lion paws sits at the base. Coming up from behind the ruins are metal stairs zigzaging up the rock, with dozens of people climbing them.A white hand holds a tiny brown book, small enough to be held with just the thumb and index finger. White letters on the cover read; "My Little Book of UNESCO World Heritage Sites". On the spine "UNESCO" is written in white.

One of the best things about Sri Lanka was seeing so many wild #elephants. One charged at our bus near Sigiriya. The best sighting though was seeing a family while on safari at Yala National Park. #SriLanka #SriLankaWildlife #Wildlife #Elephant #Art #travel #travelart #YalaNationalPark

Another tiny #SriLanka #sketch, this time with the photograph of the dancers that inspired it. This is from a performance in Kandy, I think Kandy Lake Club Cultural Show. #TravelArt #art #TinyBooks
A photo of traditional Sri Lankan dancers and drummers on a stage. Three men wearing yellow and red outfits consisting of a turban, collar, and sarong stand at the back of the stage playing thin drums that hang horizontally from a chain around their shoulders. Three women wearing elaborate red, white and gold outfits with long skirts, exposed mid-drifts, and a golden headpiece with a tall top-piece dance in front of them. A tiny book being held open by a white thumb. It is open to a drawing of a traditional Sri Lankan drummer and dancer. The drummer is to the right, a man wearing a yellow and red outfit consisting of a turban, collar, and sarong. To the left is a female dancer wearing an elaborate red, white and gold outfit with long skirt, exposed mid-drifts, and a golden headpiece with a tall top-piece. They are on a stage where the curtain is many shades of purple and green.

First tiny #sketches in my tiny #travel sketchbooks. I'm gonna draw a lot of things from my #SriLanka holiday. First, the Pettah Market, with the Lotus Tower in the background. Second, Buddha statues and murals from the Dambulla Cave Temple. #travelart #tinysketches #art
A tiny book held with a white thumb and finger. The page it is open to has a drawing in pen of a busy market street with people walking around a road full of Tuk Tuks and trucks. The green and purple Lotus Tower is in the background. It is coloured with bright markers, using many different colours. Markers can be seen behind the book. It has been ages since I shared tiny #travel sketches. Here's two favs: 1: Trấn Quốc Pagoda. My brother and I visited while exploring Hanoi. 2: My Dad at the Amsterdam Ice Bar. This was a surprise, and he cursed me out due to the cold. Later, he said it was one of his favourite things we did.
A tiny book, being open by a white thumb. On the page is a bright coloured drawing of a red Buddhist tower full of Buddha statues, with palm trees in the background and other small towers and fruit trees in the foreground. A tiny book, being open by a white thumb. On the page is a coloured picture of a man in a dark blue coat with a grey hat holding a ship's searing wheel. The wheel is embedded in a pile of snow. Behind the man is a wall of ice full of frozen fish. Above him, a rope ladder leads to a wooden ceiling. The walls are covered in snow.

Tomorrow I'm flying out to Sri Lanka for a two week holiday. I've made a tiny sketchpad for the trip, so expect to see more art and travel photos over the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, this will delay the March Monthly Story. I apologize in advance. #travel #art #tinybooks #SriLanka

Found four different bird species in the tree in my backyard at the same time. Tawny frogmouths, rainbow lorikeets, a crested pigeon and some noisy miners. I don't think the tawnys liked all the noisy, but was so cool to see. #bird #australianwildlife #australianbirds #backyardanimals
Two tawny frogmouths (owl-like birds with grey and brown feathers that look like bark) sitting together on a tree branch.A rainbow lorikeet (small parrot with green, blue, yellow and orange feathers and a red beak) sitting in a tree with brush-like red flowers.A crested pigeon (grey dove with a spiked crest on the top of its head) perched in some tree branches.A noisy miner (small bird with brown and grey feathers) is hard to see high in the tree branches, surrounded by thin green leaves and brush-like red flowers.

I've seen a few adult Striped Marsh Frogs near my #frogpond lately, and wondered if any had been tadpoles in my pond. Either way, they seem to like it here. The next gen of #tadpoles have recently hatched. Looking forward to seeing another lot grow up. #frog #frogs #AustralianWildlife #garden

First square filled on my #bookbingo card (series with six or more books). Been Re-reading the #Saga series by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, then read Vol. 12. Love this series, and loved seeing Hazel and her family in the circus. Can't wait for more. #comicbook #reading #readingchallenge
