The adult content label that got applied to this reminds me that browsing Bluesky is a lot like hanging out with your parents’ friends :-/

bro they laid off the Doom 2016 developers. that's like if you laid off the studio that made arguably one of the best first-person shooters of all time, like Doom 2016

Just had the most fun I’ve had playing games in years, playing Halo 3 in 4-player co-op with buddies. Made me remember why I love what I get to do.

Every time you see one of these headlines, hundreds of families just had to start lining up at the food bank, just had to learn to beg their landlord not to send a grip of thug cops to throw them out on the street. Layoffs right now are functionally a permanent unemployment sentence. We need help.

It’s been years since I was last at Bungie, but you never really fully leave a place like that, especially if you put years in. My heart goes out to everyone there right now who is going through this hell. I hope you manage to rebound quickly.

I’ve stared at this for a while, thinking about what to say. I’ve stared at other layoff notices, other news reports about studio closures, other game cancellations, other successful teams being torn apart, & rarely (if at all) is it from a bad team or a bad product. I still don’t know what to say.

As someone who used to work on licensed comics (Rugrats, Cartoon Network etc) it absolutely blows my mind that stuff like this is going out on official products. We'd get dragged over the coals if a spot colour was one Pantone reference out. Now? Sure, Donald has seven fingers. Why not?

The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same."
