recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Having a very bad health day and in an incredible amount of pain today. Pain killers won't dent it, just been focusing on enduring. Hardly slept last night and don't expect to tonight due to this amount of pain, unfortunately. Not used to this pain level at all.

Bumble shark plushies! She's so fuzzy 😭🐝

I am proudly against extreme fetishes that glorify violence against women/sexism/extremely unhealthy behavior. I'm also against the porn and sex work industries-- they groom, exploit and abuse women, and spread horrific attitudes towards women. The harm they do is enormous.

Went for a walk just now and heard what sounded like an ice cream truck. The neighborhood is very quiet today, and nobody is really out and about, so walking alone with just the sound of that music drifting from somewhere (and never able to see the truck) feels very odd and liminal

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

Just encouraging all Mac users to contact Apple and tell them it's BS that Siri and Apple intelligence can no longer be fully disabled in the latest update (OS27). Reports vary by device, but between 10G and 30G of AI garbage models downloading. I just wiped and will be staying with 26 for a while 😡

hello, this bird scares me in a way that is hard to articulate

some kind of stork (a jabiru) with a huge, fleshy, puffy, naked head/neck that is mostly a stark black, plus some bright red at the base. the skin is veiny, the empty black eyes are disconcerting to me, and its enormous, pointed bill feels halfway between a heron and a pelican bill in terms of thickness. basically this bird looks like a pterodactyl

Pulled a groin muscle last night which mmmmm . . . not fun. And I have done in the past. Problem is I have bad knees and I compensate with other muscles while doing work. But sometimes this puts too much strain on those other muscles. Bad!!

I go for walks at night and there is a neighborhood cat that often comes up for pets. Tonight he saw me from straight across the field and started yelling and running for me. I waited for him and petted him. The poor thing does not seem like it gets pet much.
