injured my eye by typing in spreadsheets and clicking on the piano roll and playing metal gear and texting my friends all day every day. life is so sweet and so cruel

went to see my friend play with a local singer this week. she was on stage talking about "this song is out now on all platforms" ????? I didn't come here to think about Platforms, I'm trying to "connect to another human via song". like can you save that for instagram? "all platforms".. ridiculous!

everyone's going crazy for the word combining guy but 20 years ago you all laughed at him

sonic the hedgehog (2006) npc named "Middle-aged Man" says: "I've combined "lucky" and "happy" into one word! "Luppy"!"

currently reading. a dear friend sent me a copy because she wanted to discuss it, which I could never reject. and so while I've read a lot of hard books this year my greatest challenge yet will be "being seen in public reading a book that is big on tiktok right now"

in my hand is a paperback copy of "the count of monte cristo" by alexandre dumas, penguin classics edition

she's just like me 🥲 (new yamane/shimomura interview from @shmuplations.bsky.social is a freaking goldmine shmuplations.com/yamaneshimom...)

By the time I was in middle school, I'd listen to pop music but walk around with this slightly insufferable attitude like, "Sure, but my favorites are Ravel and Rachmaninoff. I'm not like the rest of you." (laughs) I listened to a wide spectrum from the Romantic era to early modernism, but I didn't care much for Classical era composers like Mozart or Beethoven. I was just far too deeply in love with the Impressionists. I can appreciate other genres and think they sound cool, but at my core, I'm a classical nerd through and through. Even today, if I think about what to listen to before going to bed, it's always classical music.

Yamane: How do you feel about Chopin? I'm particularly fond of his Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor.

Shimomura: I love Chopin. The final movement of the third sonata is one of my top two favorite piano pieces of all time. The opening is spectacular; it...

just uploaded a "version 2" of this. really just some little typos and factual errors. so I guess more than anything it's an excuse to post about it again. I think I'm going to print a few physical copies soon. please check out "JAX's DEEP JAMS" if you want to play/learn about some rare vgm tunes!

the top of two pages of the book mentioned in the post, "JAX's DEEP JAMS". both pages are titled "STAGE 2". the left hand page has little photos and information about the composer of the tune, the game it comes from, etc. the right hand page has musical notation.
