The imaginary AI that uses no resources, 100% renewable energy, closed loop cooling, and *actively pays royalties to the creators it was trained on* is so far from reality that it isn’t worth pondering.

Sure, but can we think of things he improved with his leadership, ever? Contrasted with just dumping money on an already good (but ignored) idea?

My issue is that he isn’t making the things, and is actually harmful to the process of making them. It’s counter-balanced with him having a fuck ton of money that he puts to things that he correctly guessed would work that others passed on. If he’d just do that, he’d be better off.

People love to shit on places like Indiana, and rightly so, but seeing stuff like this reminds me that every state needs their voters to get better candidates elected.

The problem we have is that we don’t have staff, because money, so finding volunteers to talk on every social media is very difficult. People are so fragmented & we don’t want to engage on places like Twitter. We’ve had some luck on FB: www.facebook.com/reel/1023212...

Speed bump or hump? Bumps suck at any speed & cause problems with snow plows. Humps are fun to drive over at or below the speed limit, allow plows to work, and send speeders crashing into the ground. Love them.

I’m on a campaign for a state legislator candidate. How would you want us to reach you? Social media takes money, so we have to get the money somehow. News interviews are rare at our level. We’ve not sent texts yet, but likely will on Election Day for those that didn’t vote yet for GOTV.

That’s not how it works. The voter profiles look at your primary voting history more than the party you claim.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Fraternities are irredeemable. There is nothing that a secret club can do that a public organization can’t do better. They’re simply cults.

All of this, and also to add: Hazing is how cults filter out whistleblowers. The people that would put a stop to future bad behavior, or even just report it, don’t put up with being hazed.

When you see someone bullied, they're typically not the REAL target. The bully is targeting others to scare them into conformity. "Don't do what that person did, or I'll come for you, too!" Give some thought into what you've refused to do or speak up about because of your own fear of bullying.

For someone commuting between an office & apartment/condo in a metro area with bad traffic, neither a car or airplane competes with this. The only thing that does is a helicopter that is much more expensive to buy & operate.

If that worked, then losing in 2016 and 2024 would have sent the messages. Clearly that’s not a way to move the party, and the lesson they’re learning is “we can’t trust these voters to show up so we should go more right”. Primaries and lower offices is where the party is shaped.

At the risk of adopting a hateful trope, “How do you define a journalist?” Or “Political balance”? “The board will be composed only of journalists, with no executives or shareholders allowed to join, the person said, adding that the board will be required to have political balance.”

I keep telling people about how the Christian "Left Behind" books, literal fantasies about the apocalypse, were super, super popular in the late 90s/ early 2000s. I used to read them. Major disasters, while terrible, were also framed by evangelical churches as titillating...sexy almost.

Around 5km & I’ve got just the RTL SDR Smartv5. Not at all expensive for what you get, I’ve spent more on the cabling & connectors for them. Don’t forget proper grounding! These little SDRs burn out just from static charge on a long cable run even if the antenna is inside.

Here is a sample from this morning: L and I, equipment defect detector, north, mile post, four, zero, point, niner, no defects, no defects, total axle, four, three, eight, total cars, one, zero, eight, train length, six, three, three, one, speed, two, niner, end of transmission.

It’s literally voice! I’m about 5km from it. They’re designed to detect an overheating axle so the engineer can stop the train instead of the whole thing catching fire where they can’t see. Some of these trains are over 3.5km long, so they have no clue if everything is ok without them.

My local newspaper still hasn’t reported on a fatal interaction with police where the suspect was killed & 2 officers injured. I only know about it because I have a LLM running on a graphics card on a PC in my basement & transcribing & searching police radio. Journalists could use things like that.

Make V2G support mandatory! I work from home, I would gladly let the electric company use my car to balance load as long as they paid me a fair price for it.

For example, I’m using a SDR hooked up to a homemade j-pole antenna that listens to a nearby train defect detector to log the number of trains near me, how long they are, what time of day, etc. Not important enough for me to spend time learning to code for. trains.tracys.org

Completely agree that it sucks that we’re here now, but places like Texas make it easier to move the party. Low D turnout counties are easier to take over. The numbers are smaller. Those county party chairs can be replaced with 20 progressives in that county. Do it enough & control Texas Democrats.
000
Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
No, I agree, shouting “blue no matter who” right now is pointless. I’m saying “Take your anger & change the party for 2030 & beyond. Become precinct chairs. Take over county parties. Take over district leadership. Take over state parties. Be the filter at the front end!”

Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
I’m not saying you’re saying that! You asked for a solution, and I’m telling you the easiest solution is more trustworthy people inside the party, not just people voting in November. This takes YEARS, but it’s going to keep getting worse until we convince like-minded people to take over the DNC.
100
Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
Put another way: the party has people showing up, volunteering, working inside the party to get candidates to run, and those people are not trustworthy to the trans community. They must be *replaced*, not bargained with. No amount of protest or lack of voting will change them.
100
Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
Right, but why do the people that withhold their votes expect others to deliver a candidate they 100% like in November? Years of volunteer work within the party happens to get people ready to run for Congress. Those people need to be the ones that aren’t going to abandon trans issues.
100
Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
That’s backwards. You don’t withhold your vote when you don’t like the candidates available in the general. You get more involved in the party to make sure that the party & the candidates that make it through the primaries won’t throw trans people away.
100
Jason Tracy @jason.tracys.org · 12/09/2026
Progressives are not reliable voters. Until we are, our causes will be thrown away whenever convenient. The answer is getting candidates elected at lower levels, getting more progressives holding party office, etc. It’s slow & boring work, which is why the realtor class does it.

“Never Forget” is honestly bad advice for trauma. Re-living a traumatic event, watching video of it, etc, is simply picking a scab off of a wound & preventing healing.
