Australia invests just 1.69% of GDP in R&D, compared to an OECD average of 2.72%. If you’re part of the science community, I’d encourage you to emailing your MP about restoring investment in Australian science. It takes two minutes! restorescience.com.au. Thank you! @science.org.au

We need to back Australia's ability.
Restore investment in Australian science.
Science done here is science done right"

Despite a long history of world-leading discoveries, Australia's science system is going backwards – at the very moment the rest of the world is moving forward, fast. That's why we've launched BACK AUSTRALIA'S ABILITY, a call to every Australian to do exactly that.

Australia's wildlife and ecosystems are being dudded, and environmental law 'reforms' are set to continue the harms. "...clauses buried in both of the standards render these outcomes and objectives effectively useless" theconversation.com/australias-o...

Australia’s old environment laws were a box-ticking exercise. Sadly, the new ones could be too
These long-delayed laws took three years, a new Environment Minister and a slew of compromises to be passed.

The Artemis II mission reminds me of these 1960s photos of NASA astronauts training in Iceland because they felt the terrain would be similar to what they'd encounter on the moon. The outfits are so great, even some 60 years later.
Photo of three men standing on top of rocky terrain. One is wearing a blue zip-up jacket with a blue chambray shirt and tan chinos. One is wearing a green-black checkered jacket with red chamois shirt, white pants, and cowboy hat. The other is wearing a blue parka with with blue jeans. Two photos. In the first, three men are wearing bomber jackets with blue or white jeans. In the second image, one man is wearing an off white (possibly chamois?) shirt with blue jeans. Another is wearing a blue denim trucker with blue jeans. A third is wearing a blue quilted parka. Two photos of groups of men. They are wearing Nordic sweaters, olive bomber jackets, flight suits, black-green checkered jackets, cowboy hats, beanies, and jeans. Two photos. In one, there's a man wearing a brown tweed with a checked shirt. In the other photo, men are wearing bomber jackets and high-waisted cotton pants.

Life was very messy for me growing up. I survived with the encouragement of educators and was able to overcome adversity. I was lucky. But life shouldn't about luck. Policy can help young people like me thrive. Imagine a place where all kids get a go?! I explore this with The Smith Family.

Are you a scientist? Is your research cool? Do people not adequately appreciate how cool your research is? I'm looking for researchers to feature in Q&A-style interviews on my blog and would love to hear from (or about — embarrass your friends!) scientists interested in sharing their work. 🧪

This is a major achievement. Taking a One Health approach to prevent pandemics and develop early detection systems is critical. Well done to all involved, it was a long road.

Such a great read here! I only started thinking about all this after Animas left the market. Seeing Insulet take over its own distribution and entering the UK tariff and holding hands in our clinics to get access here. Built Loop on 01/08/2019. AAPS for the kiddo later, then myself and he's now OP5.

Hey Chris - yes we are here on Bluesky #T1D and I am sure a few of us can help you out. The horror of hypos underwater is a big fear, isn’t it? And tech coming unstuck - in all senses of the word! Not really a holiday - more a change of location?

Good to find you here @jasmineschipp.bsky.social. ‘Psychic weight’ is a brilliant phrase. My brother-in-law died because he was not ‘good at math’ #T1D and I am up at 3am (again) fiddling with correction factors to make sure same does not happen to my son

"I do that. Manually. Every diabetic does, and the mental pressure - the intense background psychic weight of it all - is overwhelming. We want to lower the cognitive load of diabetes. This is a disease where you may not live as long if you're not good at math. Literally. That's unfair."
