It's extremely untested technology being used to measure very novel aspects of the shape of DNA. I'm sure there's similarities between the diseases but this tech is not a level of maturity to draw conclusions that can lead to anywhere other than much more research.

You could use it as a marker of a really well functioning economy that people start itching for discomfort and strain. Hard to write fight club today when it feels like life is punching you in the nose daily

There's a book called The Shipping News, published in the 1990s. Never read til now because the title hinted it would be a very subtle, quiet, arty little book. Instead: car crashes, decapitation, storms, and surprisingly, lots of burgers.

I just don't think people will vary their spending much if their super contributions change . Oldies, it just moves access to the money a couple of years away .

A lot of those losses to mortgage holders just go to people with cash!! It gets less and less effective the more people have paid off their mortgage.

It's Happening
First tweet: I told my grandma and my auntie that Chat GPT is the devil, and they've both warned the whole family

Quote tweet: I told them that it's satanic and it's made several people (mainly kids) sacrifice themselves for the devil and that there are news articles about it. Group chat lit up like five minutes later.

Banks don't directly profit from rate hikes though. Their cost of funding tends to move with rates (e.g. deposit rates, wholesale money market rates) and their net interest margin stays mostly stable

My take is that hiking rates into imported inflation is fairly insane but we don't have a sane option everyone agrees on. We will all miss low unemployment when it is gone.

We need a system that works better than "private number". Put a VOIP into the myGov app, or ping me with a passcode inside the app and then have the dodgy sounding bloke give me the passcode upfront.

Well they fixed it. We lost a bunch of salmon that got warm and soft, various other freezer/fridge items. So still out of pocket and pissed off. A fridge should not fail. But starting from that point their service was pretty good.

Ours was the compressor. A Shaun came and replaced it, pretty promptly really We still lost a bunch of food and had to dick around with repair admin and stress out, but as these things go it was a decent effort by LG

credit to LG, they seem willing to repair the thing for free. Yet to actually happen tho.

I'd like to nominate a piece of iconic contemporary Australiana. It's everywhere. You can draw a straight line through Hills Hoists, Victa Mowers, Bonds Singlets, Holden Commodores, and this :

I put it to you that the courage of the lone liker is what makes this interesting. The willingness to be despised, to defy, that's what makes it ephemeral and therefore valuable.

💪 An analogy : It's like if I ask you to pop by my house and see what the tradies are doing: you are there on our behalf to see what our employees are up to, and they don't get to swear to secrecy.

What they are saying in that sentence is that there was no difference *between placebo and treatment* in any of the groups. There WAS difference in rates of recovery *between groups* independent of placebo or treatment.

The more recently a place urbanised, the fewer cities they have. this is an important observation, because some pattern-matching planners are trying to get poor countries to look like rich countries and spread them out, even though that may not make sense any more. 4/

What I take heart from is the surprise finding that their "exercise symptom" cohort recovered at way lower rates (~30%) than the other two cohorts (autonomic and cognitive ~60%). There's intel there for future trial design. (Probably focus trials on that subgroup!)

Jason Murphy @jasemurphy.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
What's interesting here: divergence in recovery rates between the three different symptom groups. Cognitive and autonomic groups recovered at 53%-70% within 90 days; exercise group recovery rate was just 25-34%. Worth knowing for future trials.
