Yes!! I remember this being both terrifying and the most bad-ass thing I ever saw in a movie as a kid. Just remembering “rewease the secwet weapon” gives me chills

Maybe everybody’s on Universal Blip Income. Or maybe a world with Wakanda and Stark tech and four billion people turning to dust for five years before de-dusting wouldn’t be recognizable as “the world outside your window” and there’s a hard limit on how much you (I) should think about it

Holy shit would I have been bad at football, my uncomfortable silence did that coach a favor

Jared Yanez @jaredyanez.com · 04/08/2026
A high school football coach noticed I was mildly tall in freshman year and tried to recruit me and the entire vibe was “your bones could serve my needs if you would only give me dominion over your flesh, only then will you become a person in my eyes” and I’ve never trusted school sports since

Maybe instead of selling pics of himself now he’s making prediction market bets on his appearances and fights, and they don’t show it so I can watch the movie without my head exploding. Maybe they’re being considerate

Kinda feels like money trouble should be more of a defining aspect of Spidey than “near constant AI usage” but I guess we’re swapping those

Really liked the new Spider-man but kinda weird that Peter didn’t seem to have a job or explanation for how he paid for rent, 3d printers, grave flowers routine

I read something about a major fundraising outfit for dems pushing this SMS stuff and they referred to a “burn and churn” strategy, and oh boy that sure seems like a not-good approach to politics. “Our outreach is so effective, we’ve burned and churned all our likely voters, high five”

I loved Hickman’s Secret Wars, but a big reason was reading his Fantastic Four run leading up to it, and it’s kinda locked in that a lot of what worked there won’t be possible here. Hoping to be surprised

So then if Doom ends up having beef with Steve, it’s coming from a place of “you came here for selfish reasons and twisted everybody’s lives and destinies. Anything bad that ever happened to anybody could be your fault.” And… I dunno, does that make this Doom feel Doom enough?

Jared Yanez @jaredyanez.com · 30/07/2026
Or basically “how can Steve go retire in the past without being a gigantic asshole?” And the answer would be “he didn’t, and here’s the retro utopia present day result of him maaaaaassively manipulating historical events.”
100
Jared Yanez @jaredyanez.com · 30/07/2026
It would answer the question, “how could Steve go back in time and let all the horrors of history happen the same way if he knew how it’d all play out? How could he just retire with all that knowledge and just kick back, not even factoring that he’s still got super soldier abilities still?”

Jared Yanez @jaredyanez.com · 30/07/2026
Somebody’s probably thought about this before and figured out why it couldn’t be the case, but What If… the Fantastic Four’s timeline is the way it is because Steve Rogers went back in time to be with Peggy?

Been thinking a lot about Doomsday since the con trailer and how everything known and rumored about it kinda bums me out. Trying to imagine an outcome where all those elements add up to something neat. Had one idea…

Some recent Resident Evil pin designs for Puncture Wound Pins:
Illustration of the Licker from Resident Evil. You know, the one with the tongue and the exposed brain and the big clumpy claw hands. He's crawling and looking back and his tongue is spiraling at you as if you were offering to share your ice cream cone with him.Illustration of Lady Dimitrescu's daughters for an enamel pin. Three hooded women with bloody mouths and blades and way too much going on with their necklaces. What're those green rocks for anyway, you gonna go fight Superman? Anyway there's also a big fly in the design because apparently the daughters are made of imitation blow-flies and I needed something to put at the bottom to pull it all together. I guess that means their necklaces are also made of flies so those green rocks aren't doing jack if they go up against Superman. I haven't played these games in awhile though, I could be wrong. it's possible.Illustration of Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters for a pin design. The daughters wear hooded outfits and have bloody mouths and blades. They're posed to match a painting seen in the game based on The Three Robinson Sisters. The lady wears a big fancy hat, a fancy dress, and has massive metal claws coming out of the fingers of her gloved hands. Also she's maybe ten feet tall and the daughters are not.

I really want to believe that this is a feeling both universal and mandatory for being both a good artist and a human being - willingness to suffer to make something better when you know it can be better - but I do want to believe like a lot of things that would incidentally be validating

Made some Lost Highway fan art for fun.
Fan art of David Lynch's Lost Highway, featuring the Mystery Man holding a camcorder, Patricia Arquette's characters overlaid in blue and red over headlights on a dark highway, and the two male leads split in the background, also in blue and red.

the artistic process
PANEL 1: a pigeon sits, head thrown back as they yell "i need to drawwww"
PANEL 2: the pigeon sits up, drawing in a sketchbook, a box of crayons next to them. frowning, they say "ugh this sucks"
PANEL 3: the pigeon lays on their front, happily propping one wing on their face and kicking their legs. they're drawing a slice of bread and say "oh wait, i love art"
PANEL 4: the pigeon stands up, head thrown back as they kick a ball of paper. their art is either scribbled out or balled up, the box of crayons knocked over. they angrily say "i hate everything i've ever made!!!"

Only making designs I can imagine on shirts I would've worn in middle school, now and forever. This is my apotheosis
Poster for the Denim Devil, a denim-themed wannabe slasher, done in a style that I've seen called acid graphics or neo-acid but least accurately as brutalism, I really don't think it's brutalist, maybe just because it's a grid-heavy kinda look? I don't know. There's some big text and a bunch of little text that is mostly there to look neat. These make me think of the kinds of shirts I would've really been into in middle school or something, I think even the guys who picked on me would've been like 'nice shirt weirdo' before pulling it over my head and kicking me in the face, which would've been an improvement over whatever loser shirt I was actually wearing back then. Maybe Guardians of the Coast or something with Spawn. Geez I sucked in middle school, middle school sucked

This is it, this is the stuff I do now, things that look like this. Nothing that is not like this.
Poster for an actual real-ass movie called The Unquenchable Thirst for Beau Nerjoose, done in a style that I've seen called acid-graphics or brutalist, but I really don't think it's brutalist, so I dunno. Lot of distressed paper texture, boxes, giant headline and a bunch of little text. There's an evil doctor with a knife, a guy looking at a worm creature puppet apparently coming out of his rear, cast pictures of people who were apparently cool with being in a movie called The Unquenchable Thirst for Beau Nerjoose, some other worm puppet dudes. One little text block reads: Everybody is telling you that you're the chosen one who needs to stop an evil doctor intent on ruling the universe.

Just gonna make these things going forward, only stuff that looks like this
Nonsense poster with Big Boy, Bettie Boop and A&W bear statues, big text reads ‘mealtime’ little text is random breakfast menu items, done in a style that I keep seeing called Brutalist but no it’s not - I guess acid graphics or neo-acid is closer, I dunno, but it looks like the coolest tshirt 12 year old me would ever wear

That makes a lot of sense to me. Much of what is built and designed even now is by and/or for people who have that something of that analog context

My recollection was that the biggest early negative tipping point for COVID precautions was when a study showed that lower-income and POC demographics were getting hit hardest, and some of the worst people I’ve met decided “oh, this is a THEM problem, masks off”. (Could be off, but it felt that way)

Recently been informed they did not even vaguely attempt to traumatize anybody with tinman or scarecrow origins, such a missed opportunity. My childhood movie trauma was my favorite trauma, come on folks we’ve got a responsibility

Kathy from "The Mask Returns." Doug Mahnke's been one of my favorite artists in comics for as long as I've had favorite artists in comics, and my copies of the first two "The Mask" TPBs are damn near falling apart at this point. This one was the best of my last batch of Big-head studies.
Comic style art of Kathy from 'The Mask Returns.' Big green head and wielding a flamethrower, torching left side of the frame.
