Rahm is great at making democrats lose their minds. He loves it, so don’t give it to him. There is no constituency for Rahm Emmanuel. He’s irrelevant.

The quickest way to lose a US senate race is to telegraph that you’re just using it as a stepping stone to higher office and have no plans to finish your term.

Ah, this may be it: 1989 Teamsters were put under federal oversight bc they’d been mobbed up forever. Ever since they’ve looked to Repubs to help them end the consent decree. Nothing was more important to them I looked, & sure enough, DOJ just ended federal oversight teamster.org/2026/09/u-s-...

We can only imperfectly figure out who voted and why with exit polls which are highly susceptible to self-selection bias. There are no exit polls for people who don‘t enter in the first place.

Something I’ve heard about during my trip to the Gulf? War profiteering. Often by U.S. companies. Let me tell you what I learned. And why a Democratic Congress should do something about it

I will state again for the record that nobody in politics gives a shit why you don’t vote. There is no such thing as “strategic non-voting.” There is only an incomprehensible, contradictory list of excuses for apathy and disengagement that varies from individual to individual.

For some reason the YouTube algorithm is serving up all sorts of discourse from 6 months ago in TX-Senate. All sorts of influencers promising how the democrats were gonna be sorry because of how they were going to use “strategic non-voting” in November. I wonder if that’s still operative.

There are legislators across the country in both the majority and the minority who do exactly what you want but you have no idea that they exist because they aren't the mayor of New York City.

Yes he’s a talented politician; but there is no way, no how that that same exact dude would be the guy to emulate if he were a member of Congress, because nobody would know him from Jasmine Crockett or any of a number of millennials with selfie sticks.

Mamdani is obviously particularly charismatic and media-savvy but he also has strong, nearly dictatorial powers and doesn’t have to beg some republican to get a vote on an amendment.
010
Michael Ditto @janus303.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Why can’t every Democrat just be Mamdani, this site constantly asks? Because not every Democrat is a strong mayor in a big city. it’s easier to be an influencer online when you have vast actual power and influence than it is if you’re one of 535 members of congress and in the minority party.

Not really? On the whole, executives do this all the time because they’re the star of the show, while legislators do not, because citizens don’t give a damn about caucus politics and look at legislators self-promoting as crass and corrupt.

John Hickenlooper was very good at this, but he has discovered as many do that it gets harder do when you’re a junior senator than it is when you’re a big city mayor.

I don’t think come people understand the degree to which the US thrived in the 50s and 60s because we were supplying the whole world which had been flattened by WWII while our industrial capacity was unscathed. That was never going to be permanent.

So 1234 W. 68th Ave is 12.3 blocks west of Broadway and 68 blocks north of Ellsworth, on the south side of 68th. Bonus: 8 blocks/mile going N-S, 16 blocks per mile going east-west (exceptions apply)
020
Michael Ditto @janus303.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Everything east of Broadway (0) is an East address and everything to the west is a west address. Avenues are numbered; streets are not. Even addresses are on the east or north side of a street, odd addresses are on the west or north side.
110
Michael Ditto @janus303.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Most cities have consistent rules for their street numbers and names, so if you know the rules, you can find your way. E.g. in Denver, Streets go north and south, avenues go east and west. Everything to the north of Ellsworth Ave. (0) is a North address, everything to the south is a South address.

Republicans love flooding the zone with bogus polls but they generally don’t sell them as internals, rather they try to make them look like independent public polls.
