1/ An aspect of developments in Syria is a violent negotiation in which the Turkish regime aims to coerce Assad and Kurdish mov. into consenting to its conditions. The so-called "Syrian rebels" besieging Aleppo are essentially the remnants of ISIS and al-Qaeda, heavily armed and armored by Turkey.

I think this hypothesis would definitely hold if there wasn’t such a great geopolitical uncertainty in the region. What motivates both the gov. coalition and the broader Kurdish movement is their respective considerations of the geopolitical transition in the region.
