I’m enjoying my ng+ playthrough of Townfall. The axe helps and the cutscenes shine in a new light with added context. But it does feel like I can buy a free kill with every two documents rather than me having some epiphany about my violent nature.

Got through my first playthrough of Townfall. I liked it, but clearly the game was telling me my choices are not redeeming enough and the condition that you can’t kill pretty much any enemies is like asking to not enjoy the game at all.

I’m halfway through Clara Woods now in Townfall and here finally the game starts to feel right. I have enough to defend myself, I’ve gotten used to how the enemies behave and can exploit that. It feels like a proper Silent Hill game.

I thought this was just beautiful. Kurt Vonnegut takes a walk to mail a letter:

She calls out, “Where are you going?” And I say, “I am going out to get an envelope.” And she says, “Well, you’re not a poor man. Why don’t you buy a thousand envelopes? They’ll deliver them, and you can put them in a closet.” And I say, “Hush.”

I go next to the postal convenience center down the block at the corner of 47th Street and Second Avenue. The woman behind the counter says, “Thirty-nine cents for a stamp.” I say, “I only brought thirty-seven. When did that change?” She looked at me a long time. “Thirty-seven isn’t enough.” “Well that oughta be enough for one envelope,” I said. The line was getting longer.

The lady moved her hand into her coat. I knew this routine. I backflipped behind the man behind me in line, wrapping my elbow around his throat as I landed. By the time the stamp seller had unloaded her clip, I had full cover. The gentleman’s body dropped to the floor, six holes smoking. The package he was carrying fell to the floor with a heavy clunk. Whatever was in there, it would do.

I rolled my foot over the cardboard and did a “flick up” as they call it in soccer. I bounced the package once or twice on the back of my foot as the mail lady reloaded, then I launched it high and spun 360 to deliver my patented “Rising Phoenix kick”. The package caught fire as it shattered through the protective plexiglass window and struck the woman’s head with all the force and hatred I had learned to channel in my grueling tutelage under five fallen Wudang masters in my youth. The lady’s body exploded off of her bones, leaving just a blackened skeleton spinning in her office chair. “So it goes,” I said, but no one laughed. I guess they weren’t big readers.

And I go home. And I have had one hell of a good time.

We are dancing animals. How beautiful it is to get up and go out and do something. We are here on Earth to fart around. Don’t let anybody tell you any different.

I think the biggest problem Townfall has it's poor communication skills. Every mechanic is briefly displayed as a wall of text when first encountered and then expected to remember when the gameplay is relatively complicated and needs easing into.

I’m sure Townfall enemies have poetic names like ”The Victim” or the like but I will always (lovingly) call them: The Axe-Head Man, The Underpants Man, The Broccoli Man and That Lamppost Bastard.

As appreciating as I am of these new Silent Hill 2-likes, I wouldn’t mind one that went back to its pulp-occult horror origins with an element of psychological horror in it.

Silent Hill Townfall is interesting in a lot of ways, but the stealth is bad and the combat is REALLY bad, so if you just want to get on with it, especially in those Zoe sections, I find that whacking the underpants guys in the head from behind and running to a closet is the least painful way.

I've been playing something on PS3 lately and coming back from that to PS5 it's kind of shocking, how on PS3 the controller is light and its battery lasts for a week and the PS 5 controller weighs like a brick and dies in four hours.

Boy it's hard to pick just nine. Was thinking hard if I should choose Monkey Island or Leisure Suit Larry, since technically LSL got me into adventure games, but MI got me into point and click ones and is definitely the classier and better option. my9games.net

I was a little luke warm at Silent Hill Townfall at first. I still find the early combat/stealth tedious and the monster moves like someone who locked themselves out of their house on a cold day wearing only underwear, but there’s a real sorrowful depth to the game that feels compelling.

As I was heading to bed last night, I noticed a very bright flash in the sky, which I first assumed was just my eyes playing tricks on me because I was tired, but then I saw it happen two more times. As bright as lightning or fireworks, but there were barely any clouds and no sound. What was that?
