Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Had to deal with another "but people don't use books anymore, it's all online" convo today after being asked what I do... it's so tiring. 040
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Wow, that's another interesting take! I hadn't thought about the potential for comparison... 000
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026That's an interesting perspective - from the other side of the coin. I usually begin formal when starting to correspond and then take my lead from what they sign their email off as. Particularly around Dr and Prof. Usually they then sign off with simply their first name and I take my cue from that. 110
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026All good points. I waver between this view and suspecting a lot of people just don't see librarians as needing to be qualified in anything to do our job. Hence why I'm reticent to just ditch them entirely😕 110
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I have googled it so many times and never got a definitive answer. I have not done any responsible librarian-ing to find an authoritative source 😆 010
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Yeah, it's really confused me! I'd hate it if someone had felt I wasn't approachable/intimidated by them. I liked your idea about including them selectively - especially for difficult conversations with people who might respond differently. Annoying that it might change the response but still... 001
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026That was what my colleague said. And made me rethink it all! 100
Jane Pothecary @janepoth.bsky.social · 11/09/2026What's people's feelings about postnominals in email signatures? I go back and forth. I work with academics and it's a quick way to communicate that I know what I'm talking about. On the other hand, a library colleague recently mentioned they nearly put them off asking me a question. 500
